Hi again ;)
So the nausea can be from lots of things but pre-op it's probably a regular old bug- or it's drops in blood glucose-
Post-op- nausea can commonly be from too much volume in your pouch at once- including water- gulping Water or eating too much volume post-op can make anyone nauseous-
The caffeine thing isn't just because of dehydration- that's a big part but also- the caffeine starts a whole mini fight or flight reaction in your body- you release adrenaline and cortisol because it's a stimulant and this triggers hunger- that's the big reason we have to avoid it-
I know it sucks- this cold turkey thing could definitely be the reason for your nausea, cold sweats and headache- but the best way to get through it is to just get through it- don't do the coffee at all- no caffeine- I know how hard it is- I had to do it too- but it will be worth it- the withdrawal from caffeine can take a few days but then it's smooth sailing- no more headaches or shaking/ sweating- SF popsicles will help- so will jello- just mix it all up- and try different shakes until you find the ones that you like- Bariatric Advantage is good but my faves are Premiere Protein and Unjury- Unjury has really good chicken Soup flavor/broth kind of stuff that gives you a break from the sweet shakes too-
This will pass- like you said- you've come so far! Keep it up- I think the pre-op is actually harder than the post-op diet- it WILL get better-
Here's a good quote for you- I seem to have a bunch today [emoji12]
"When you feel like giving up, remember why you started in the first place"
That one got me through NP school- keep it on an index card and laminate it- then keep it in your purse or back pocket :)
Hope this helps!

I'm sorry to hear that you're going through these challenging moments. It'll get better. I know how frustrating it can be just drinking Protein Shakes. I'm on a pre op meal plan and loving it[emoji4]. My health plan does not put us on the liquor diet prior to surgery. We eat real food that's high in Protein and low carbs. This is preparing us to eat for life and the weight is dropping. You will do great.

Water is difficult to drink post-op, so try the Great Value drink mixes from Walmart, which are the same as Crystal Lite for so much less money. I also had the problem of hurling, so I tried the EAS 100 whey SF Protein Powder & mixed it w H2O & then tried drinking 4 ounces in a 1/2 he & built up to 8 ounces an hr. Sorry you're having trouble & I know it's going to get better. In addition, I took the compasine my surgeon prescribed until the nausea receded.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
