I need "sugar free" explained to me...

Recommended Posts

First off, fake sugars like sucralose and aspartame to me are actually poison and not food. Fake colors, neurotoxins as well. So those are out.

So when after surgery I will be allowed sugar free popsicles, I was thinking I could maybe have a frozen fruit bar, natural, no fake stuff. But fruit is sugar. And a lot of these commercial natural fruit bars have some added sugar but the total sugars on the nutritional info are low .

It is hard to find one without added sugar, but one brand I found with "juice only" advertised, has more sugar per nutritional analysis than other natural bars that add a bit of sugar.

So what is acceptable? Thanks.

I bought some Protein Water from Walmart. It comes in lemonade, grape, coconut and mixed berry flavors. No sugar, i am going to make my own pops.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using BariatricPal mobile app

fruit is actually healthy when you eat the fruit.. the juices are virtually all crap, and on top of being natural sugar without the slower digestion of solid fruit (and in some cases without the fiber), companies tend to add more sugar.. why? No fricken clue. It passes through you quick, quickly absorbs, quickly overloads the liver, liver quickly converts excess to fat. Juices are garbage.

There's nothing wrong if you, say, made home made frozen pops that had like 2g of added sugar per pop, and apparently stevia extract works well enough that some major freezies brands are starting to go with it. Like all things, need to have it in moderation.

sugar free means no sugar or refined sugar. But may contain artificial sweeteners. NO SUGAR ADDED means that there is natural sugar, but no refined sugar added.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
