heyheysaraj 6 Posted June 29, 2017 I had my sleeve surgery on Monday 6/26, and my weight was 262. When I was discharged yesterday my weight was 270! Now today I'm down to 268, but that's still a 6 pound gain since surgery. I keep trying to tell myself it's the IV fluids, but it still worries me a lot. Did this happen to anyone else? How long before you start really losing?Yesterday was my first day logging food and I hit 203 calories, so I really don't think overeating is the issue. Thank you for any help or advice you can give! I'm really stressing about this!
Sophie74656 1,572 Posted June 29, 2017 Yes, it's fluids. They pump a lot into you. Stick to your plan and you will do well. Good luck. 1 heyheysaraj reacted to this
Navigating the Wilderness 824 Posted June 29, 2017 This is very common. Most likely they gave you steroids while in the hospital which will cause you to retain Water weight amoung other things. This type of weight gain should reverse itself very quickly. Congrats on the surgery, and don't spend too much time on the scale the first month post-op as your body will be recovering! 1 heyheysaraj reacted to this
SeaShells82 96 Posted June 29, 2017 It's the fluids. Stay off the scale for the first month. You'll drive yourself nuts watching the scale go up and down seemingly at random while your body adjusts. Even after the first month there is sometimes no rhyme or reason to it. Congrats on surgery! 1 heyheysaraj reacted to this

arringtonc49 188 Posted June 29, 2017 Yes it is fluids. I gained weight too. They said they give you extra Fluid so you don't become dehydrated when you go home. The weight will come off[emoji3]!Sent from my D6708 using BariatricPal mobile app
rainyann 118 Posted June 30, 2017 I gained about 9 pounds. When I said something to my surgeon at my first post-op visit she asked me why I weighed myself. Anyhow, it does come off. I just think they should tell us ahead of time that it might happen so we aren't shocked when it does.
AZLoser 103 Posted July 4, 2017 Fluids. I had the same issue. Keep drinking Water and peeing. At the end of week 2 you'll be down like magic.
