What are your go-to foods?

Recommended Posts

Hey all, I'm just wondering what foods/meals are in your regular rotation? Is it because they are high Protein, very filling, you like the taste, your daily small guilty pleasure... etc..? I'm hoping to find some meal ideas.

Foods in my regular rotation:

I drink a Premier Protein shake every morning

I have 4oz egg whites and 2slices of ultra thin cheese every day for Breakfast

I eat yogurt every day

I add trulemon to my Water every day because I (still) can't tolerate the taste of plain water.

If you have any foods I'd love to know what they are. Thanks!

I have several different meats that I really like. I vary the seasonings or way that I cook them to change things up.

Grilled chicken

Grilled or baked salmon

smoked turkey sausage

grilled steak ( I make fajitas frequently)

I like egg salad, egg omelettes, tuna salad.

Not sure yet as I'm back to going to my lifestyle diet (plant based). But before the recent change, I was buying the Bumble Bee seasoned tuna packets and Rx bars. I also carry a can of Blue Diamond smokehouse almonds in my purse.

Everyday I have an oikos triple zero yogurt, a Premier Protein shake, cheese sticks for snack, and lately I've been loving chicken sausage from aldi. 1 link is 15g Protein & the flavor is really good, my current fav is Tomato basil. I also eat Starkist tuna Creations pretty regularly. I try to get the most bang for my buck when it comes to protein. I also keep a bag of lightly salted edemamae in my purse.

Any kind you want. Beef, chicken, turkey. My hubby loves Five Guys so when we go there, I get a little bacon cheeseburger with jalapenos. I order it with no bun in a bowl. I can eat about half of it. Delicious! He is a team player and never orders fries.

My tastes have definitely changed since preop (I'm 5weeks post op now). Have you found your tastes continue to change the further you are out from surgery?

I'm more into fresh vegetables the further I get out from surgery. This summer, my go-to meals have consisted of yellow squash casserole, zucchini ranch meatloaf, and spinach casserole, all made from scratch.

Never before have I eaten so many vegetables in my lifetime.

Greek yogurt with some Fiber One Cereal every morning for breakfast. I usually have 2 or 3 oz of baked chicken for lunch or dinner. I only cook chicken since that is all my son will eat. I also keep turkey Jerky and roasted edemame for emergency Snacks. And on occasion I have a Protein Bar if I really need something extra

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
