4 weeks ago, I had vsg. Since then, I have noticed the section above my belly button is numb. Is there anybody else who has that problem? Like a numb nerve? Right on the left of it is a incision. Or that they accidentally cut a nerve?

Doesn't necessarily mean they cut a nerve, but they could have damaged it. I had that with one of my surgeries and it took a year to get feeling back around the incision.

Hey Wedding Dress :) I love your name! As for the numbness- it's totally normal :) to cut any part of the skin below the epidermis means you're going to cut nerves- now it's not like cutting a major nerve like a vagus nerve that controls your heart rate or anything- but "sensation" nerves nonetheless- it takes a while for them to regenerate if they will at all- I have a surgical scar on my R ankle from when I was 17 (I'm 43 now) that still is numb around it- no big deal though- it may itch as it regrows or not. Much better than being obese like we were though I think ;)

Yes! I asked my surgeon and he said it may or may not come back (thanks man!).
So, 6 weeks later, it's starting to feel normal. Surgeon said if it didn't come back to normal I'd get used to it.

I had the same numb sensation near one of my incisions. It is back to normal now almost 7 weeks post-op.

One of my gallbladder incisions (the biggest one) is still numb 8 years out. My 6" back surgery stomach scar is creepily numb 10 years out. It's just the scar tissue has no nerves so it depends on how much you form.

I am one and a half weeks post op from gastric bypass and i have numbness above my belly button. I think it is normal because the nerves are damaged for a while. I broke my shin like 7 years ago and still have numbness. I actually found your post searching because my belly button area is numb too lol

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
