Had my DS 2/17/17. 74 pounds down. I'm excited to be out of the 300 club but should I have lost more?

Seems like a legit amount of weight loss to me. I had surgery 2 weeks prior to you and have lost 92 pounds, but was 25 over pounds heavier on my surgery date than you. Just keep up the good work!!

If you think you're not losing fast enough, talk to your doctor. My reaction to these questions is always a bit of amazement: without the WLS, can you imagine any possible way you would have lost so much in that time period? I think you're doing FANTASTIC!!

Thank you. I had tried pills and injections and was never below 300 pounds. I guess I'm doing okay.

50lbs in a little over 4 months isn't bad. We all lose at different rates. (I had my surgery a month after you and am down 42lbs since the surgery.. so I think we're losing at about the same rate). I get how it seems slow, but it really isn't! Some of us are just taking our sweet time.. but there are probably benefits to slower losses.

Our skin might handle it better (fingers crossed)

Our gallbladders might be happier

Our emotional state might be more calm (I am calmer than before surgery!)

If you get concerned, make sure you are tracking what you are eating, and monitoring your exercise, and tweak when necessary. (Personally my exercise has been quite low, so I have lots of room to increase it).

Watch for those non scale victories too! I have lost 11 inches off my hip measurement!

I was down about 62lbs. in the same period. I never could have lost that much on my own during a 4 month period.

So let's get personal how many times a day are y'all having bowel movements. I'm 4-5 times a day morning noon and night.

I don't have one everyday.. probably every-other-day.. but they tend to be enormous! 8-O

Sounds like you may want to evaluate what you are eating/drinking. Something might not be agreeing with you. Artificial sweeteners are a possibility. (Okios yogurt acts as a laxative for me.. I eat plain greek yogurt instead). Dairy is another common culprit. Spinach increases my transit time dramatically.

Are the stools formed or watery? If watery, you might become dehydrated, so need to find a solution right away. If they are formed, then you have time to experiment.

My surgeon stated with the resection of my bowels it's to be expected. And you should go every time you eat. He just states if it becomes a problem to take Imodium. The stools are soft formed. Since 60% of my small intestines are by passed I expect it just wondering if anyone else's spends more time on the commode than their desk at work.

Girl, I am no kidding once every 7-10 days! I feel totally fine but this can't be normal!

On June 12, 2017 I had my gallbladder removed, my lapband removed and revised to an RNY.

You are doing great. You can't judge your progress on where other are or were. I had the issue when I had my DS. But once I realized I was an individual and that my body reacts differently than most my weight was coming off faster and faster. I had my surgery October 31,2016 and I have lost 123 pounds. I haven't even hit my year yet. So, keep up the great work and you will be at your goal weight before you know it.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
