My surgery will be next week

Recommended Posts

Almost everyone feels this way at some point before surgery, especially if they have never had it before. So your actions are very, very normal. Try to focus on other things, and realize there are millions of people who have gone through this surgery and are perfectly fine and healthy!

Hi Tita. I am getting my surgery done on July 7th so we are close in date. I too have never had surgery before and am pretty nervous. I just keep thinking about the low, low, low complication rates. I'd bet it compares to the chances of being struck by lightening. LOL.

Hey Tita, My surgery was on June 21. I'll tell you truth it is scary. I was excited right until they were wheeling me into the surgery room then I got extremely nervous. Then when I woke up I was in shock like what did I just do to my body. The pain was tolerable for me but to some people it's awful. You'll feel like you're going to throw up once you wake up and your stomach will be sore. Once I got home everything was so much better. No one was poking me with needles or waking me up at 3am to go for a walk. I can now say that I'm doing well. After that first week you should be better. I hope you have people that's supporting you and help you through this. I couldn't imagine going through this without my mom. If you don't have help, to take a shower I put a hair band around my neck and pinned the drain to it. It helped me. But I wish you luck and I'll say a prayer for you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
