Calorie Intake Concerns

Recommended Posts

I am 6 weeks post-op and I am getting between 700-800 calories. On days I workout I am close to 800 and have hit 810. Some days I am just not as hungry and usually 700-750.
I think some of us have faster healing and therefore are able to eat more. I am not worried about calories so much now because I know what I am eating is healthy. My net carbs are always below 30 and usually 15-20g. I think moving the calories up a little every few weeks is a good thing. I want my metabolism to be healthy. I am not a nutritionist. This is just my opinion from research I have done.

I try and "refeed" carbs once a week. I did some research on Hashimoto disease and apparently when we are doing Keto it throws our T3 into starvation mode. I wish I had the study to show you. The info is all over the place though. I tried it (adding higher carbs for one day) and dropped two lbs in two days. If I stall out again I'll try it again and see how it goes.

Well, everyone is different, but I feel that at 5 weeks out you should be able to tolerate more than 2oz at a time. Then again, if it's dense Protein, maybe that's all your sleeve can tolerate at once. Hard to say. How many calories do you get on average per day? How are you feeling overall?

I'd recommend running this by your surgeon just to be on the safe side.

I actually feel fine. I take my Vitamins and B-12 everyday. I think on an average I am getting about 550 cals a day. I started using genpro this morning, so we will see how I do by the end of the day today.

Thank you so much for posting this. I need to read up about this. I know the low carb is great for my type 2 diabetes, but I don't want to mess up my control of my Hashimoto disease.

When you refeed, how many more gram of carbs do you eat? Are you just eating more dairy?

Next week will I be allowed to start toning with weights, once I hit my 6 week mark. I have only been on solid foods for about 2 weeks now. The eating part is my toughest challenge. Everything I eat gets hung up, only thing I can figure is I am still eating too fast. It's a challenge but I will get through it.

Honestly, I still have trouble eating too fast. I've eaten this way for 30 years and is hard to change overnight. Good news, if I know I will be tempted by something, I eat something too fast/too big and that puts the breaks on immediately.

@Joann454 I started researching this today after your post and I found this article with links to other literature

It may be that lower T3 while on. Keto diet is a good thing. I am still researching, but I wanted to share this with you.

I ate about 80 grams of carbs. I have no real way to know if it's why I lost the two lbs though. I did use dairy.

Thanks! I intend to stay on keto but want to make sure I'm not screwing up my thyroid hormones. So I'm really interested in this. Appreciate it!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
