Losing support from a loved one

Recommended Posts

Just going through a rough patch and need to hear from other out there going through the same thing. I have a family member that has beed supportive all the way so far but now that I'm getting closer and closer to my goal that support has disappeared. Trying to stay possive but this was the only person that supported me on this journey.

Please don't take this as me being a Debbie Downer, but the way my life has worked, I have learned that I can't count on anyone to support me. Many may say they will, but very few do. My husband has been a solid support, but now that I'm 25 pounds from goal, he is suggesting we eat and do things that are not good for my new lifestyle.

Therefore, buck up, Sister -- you've got this. You got yourself this far and will go all the way. While it is nice to have some help from others, this is something you need to do.

You are fierce. You are stronger than you think. You've got this,

I have found some family members supportive, some negative, especially ones who may be jealous of the changes you're making because they don't feel capable of making changes to their own lives. You just need to find others who are supportive. You will over time I bet.

I have not had my surgery, but i lost all my weight before, being 70 lbs at that time (jojo person here). When i got close to goal, i had people trying to feed me and telling me i was to skinny. I'm looking forward to be able to say that i need to follow my doctors orders to stop people from doing that again. And my mantra will be "nothing taste as good as healthy feels"
You got this! You have support here, be strong and look out for yourself. It is a skill you will need as you reach goal and encounter people who don't know you had surgery.

Now i just hope i get approved

Talk to them and let them know how important it is for you to reach this goal and how much their support means to them. I do better writing my thoughts, so maybe a greeting card that says thanks for your support, you've helped me get this far and I really appreciate your continued support as I progress closer to my goal.

I have learned a lot in my 71 years. I suggest that you go to your surgeons support group and let yourself be the strong and supportive one for YOU. Never depend on anyone for your needs. Unless you have a significant other. You will be fine!!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
