Was sleeved in 2014 somethings wrong, help?

Recommended Posts

I had the gastric sleeve on June 2nd 2014, Dr. Hoyt was my surgoen at Darnell army medical and I had several complications after surgery one of which was a leak that resulted in me needing to be transferred to BAMC (in San Antonio ) and then was finally released and able to start true post op life on June 30th.
I went to all my follow ups and lots of support groups meet quiet a few times everything was great (other than having 3 drs over the years and 2 surgeries to repair a umbilical hernia I had fixed during the same orginal surgery in 2014 ) I have not had a follow-up in close to 2 years or seen a nutritionist but ive maintained on the appropriate diet and stayed exercising, my start weight was 290 surgery was 273 and at my smallest was 160 (I'm 5 ' 5 1/2 )
Over past few months things have been changing, my restriction feels totally gone, I have incredible heart burn that doesn't seem to go away my food at times feels like its stacking I'm often very nauseas and I get awful stomach pains and headaches and noone can really figure it out, I feel bloated constantly Im back up too 195 regardless of me mantaining the diet and exercise and then I finally thought maybe its sleeve related?
Im in the process now to figuring out how I go about getting in to another surgoen for a follow up to see if everything is okay and the hospitals nutritionist who heads the WLS program as well but its just been so long I dont even know the proper steps to take so its taking time.
Is there anyone whose gone through this? Im so frustrated and defeteated and I'm at a loss as to what to do.

I am only a year out, but if I was you I would call the surgeons office and see about getting in to see the Dr. I would call today and explain what symptoms you are having. Do you have a primary Dr may be he can help get you in to see your surgeon or another Dr that can check you out. Feel better

Likely, no one here is going to be able to answer your Q's. Important that you see a doc right away! One of my friends had her sleeve re-done because the original surgeon made mistakes. FIRST make sure everything is medically okay

Having the sleeve puts you in higher risk of gallbladder issues. You need to have it checked out.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
