First appointment Tomorrow to start my journey - HELP

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to this but I'm nervous for my first consultation with the doctor tomorrow. I'm also very excited at the same time! Anyone else experience a rollercoaster of emotions? Anybody have any advice or questions I should ask the doctor tomorrow? Thank you in advance!

Best Wishes,

Pinkie

It is common to feel apprehension or fear prior to any surgery. There are several different forms of surgery, so you may want to ask about each type. Also many of us have health issues. These can lead to defining the best type of surgery appropriate for our particular issues. I had GERD and RNY gastric bypass is better for this condition than the sleeve because the sleeve will only make this condition worse. You might want to discuss the rate of revision for each type of surgery. If I was going under the knife for this surgery, I did not want to repeat the experience.

First consultations usually are very basic in nature. At least that was my experience. My surgeon went over the basics of each surgery in general terms( the benefits of wls,the difference in them, your bmi, what diets you were on in the past&risks) & I had already did some research beforehand. Write down your questions, thoughts or feelings and express them. First consultation is a beginning & also is where you start to bond with your surgeon. So, express yourself & concerns however you need. I dont know how much research you have done prior so
when you& your surgeon do decide on what wls surgery will be best for you make sure you take notes in your nutrition class&do research on your own to get a well rounded understanding & education on the pros & cons & your responsibilities. Also, reading what others experienced(like on this forum) during their journey has helped me tremendously. Absorb as much information as you can. Listen & follow what your surgeon says. Yes, emotions run high & low. I am both happy & anxious at my upcoming surgery. There are great people to learn from in this forum. This forum is like icing on a cake. The information you get from your surgeon & nurse & nutrition class is the cake & this forum is the icing. Good luck to you

Thank you so much! Due to my issues, the doctor suggested RNY gastric bypass.

I completely understand. My 1st appointment is on July 3rd. Part of me has been ready for this for months and the other part of me is nervous. I've decided to let all the nervousness go and embrace my new journey. =)

I wish you luck for your first appointment! This is all so exciting. I'm not as nervous as I was before. I think talking to the doctor helped a lot.

Thank you so very much! I'm very glad I found this forum as I don't get any support from my family, it's nice to have others that are experiencing the same thing as I am. Good luck to you too! :)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
