Do You Agree With Brad ??

Recommended Posts

There are two parts. The first is "I believe be because I'm afraid not to." The other part is, "If I'm wrong, I'm not out anything for having believed." I could never agree with this. Let's see what someone might be out... money, time, an entirely different mindset, friends (I have watched people work to distance themselves from me upon learning that I don't share their faith), arguably more freedom in how you live your life (perhaps including who you spend your life with), a different sense of place in the world and... maybe most things as well.

Not saying someone using that argument would miss these things, but they could certainly be out them.

I have a degree in philosophy. Which means I'm qualified to have a nose ring, purple hair, and barista. :heh:

I am an atheist. I find it quite impossible to believe in some sort of sky daddy. My father was an atheist and both my brothers were, too.

Hey green! I am a Christian but I still like you! How about a margarita??

That sounds mighty fine to me. :biggrin1: I love to meet for drinkies and a band-friendly meal. :hungry:

(I've never thought that belief or lack of belief was a reason to like or dislike anyone. :o)

It isn't a very good reason, but hey it happens! There is too much going on in the world to waste time. Trying to change someone's spiritual beliefs or non-beliefs is next to impossible. I think we should enjoy spending time with folks we like and religious beliefs can be set aside for an evening...

I'll drink to that! :)

I have a favorite story. I may have told it here before but I can't remember so here goes again.

I love my Dad, I really do but he had one issue that got under my skin more than most anything, he was a bigot. Just hated black people. It is the one thing that we would have huge verbal fights over. I would not let him come to Phoenix unless he promised to keep his mouth shut about the topic.

Well, my Dad was a pilot and he loved flying. He had his own Aeronica Champ (type of airplane) and would fly all over.

He was on some e-group for pilots and met a guy and they became e-friends. They really hit it off, had the same attitudes about life in general, same morality, same faith, same love of flying, the works. He kept telling me this guy's name and I told him that the name and everything sounded like a very famous TV personality. Was it the same person? He insisted that it wasn't, I was dreaming. Okay, just coincidental.

They decided to fly to halfway points and meet in real time. They both had very unusual and unique airplanes so they had a great deal to discuss. Well, they did and son of a gun if the guy wasn't black! My Dad had no idea. They hit it off in real time just as they did on line and became good friends.

After my Dad died I realized this guy might not know so I emailed him. We ended up talking a great deal on line. The weekend after I got home from the funeral I was a mess and in tears non stop. This guy sat by his computer and we emailed ALL weekend long to the wee hours in the morning. He later told me that he knew if something had happened to him my Dad would have been there for his kids. That's true, he would have.

After I could think rationally again I started taking a long hard look at his emails and his words, his phrases, the works... it was verrrrry similar to the words and phrases this famous person uses.

I finally asked him if he was one in the same as the famous person. He responded that if he had to come clean, yes. He was the person I had suspected earlier when my Dad first told me about him. My Dad honestly had no idea, he didn't watch that show. (Probably because the dude was black. HA!)

On line provides a great opportunity for lots of reasons IMHO. We get to know people without knowing religion, lack of religion, skin color, the works. You know if you might like someone before you ever let your prejudices fan the fires.

Ayup. I have one of those too. Emphasis in literary naturalism, to make matters worse. :rolleyes

I like margaritas if I can't taste the alcohol. The Euphoria from Cheeseburger in Paradise does nicely. By far the best margarita I've ever had. If it needs to be at home, then a rose (Tequila Rose) margarita will do quite nicely!

sadly to say,to belive in god thru fear dose not safe gaurd you to eternal life in heaven[read your bible]sorry, but its true, you cant take comfort in somthing you dont believe or have faith in.the only way to heaven is to accept christ and know he died on the cross so you can be forgiven, some people must be really hateing me by now im sure.i am a nice person[really]and i know you all have your view points, but thats mine, and if i have helped anyone due to that then great.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
