Do You Agree With Brad ??

That's what you believe, though. I bet if you ask certain members of other religions whether their deity is the same as another deity, they'd disagree. It just depends on how they believe.

I guess so...

Yes, I don't believe Buddha or Allah is God.

And that's as far as I'm going, I hate hate hate being in religious debates, and I smell it coming right around the bend! But I do so enjoy listening to people's opinions on it. :biggrin1:

I think at a very fundamental (or perhaps infantile is a better word) level, people are looking for ways to explain things that they cannot otherwise explain, e.g. origin myths.

Indeed! Ask a satanist if they worship the same deity as christians.

I agree with that... different deity, though ultimately they workship their "God" whoever that may be...

Since you are an atheist, and please forgive me, this may be a stupid question and I can probably guess the answer, but I'll ask anyway.... Do you think that Satan's workshipers and Christ workshipers are pretty much the same, because they workship something or someone that in your opinion doesn't exist? or do you see a difference because of their different deity?

Every person with a religion has a god. A god is different from God, though. God is a god, but all gods aren't God.

And I'm an Atheist, too, so I'll answer your question, along with Wheetsin. I don't see any difference between a Satanist, a Christian, a Muslim, or a Buddhist. Or any other believer in a higher power, for that matter. They're just people that need to believe that something out there is bigger than them. They aren't WRONG for believing what they believe, I just don't believe with them.

For me, Christ is my God, but when I've talked to Muslims and buddhists, they refer to Allah and Buddha as their "God" which leads me to believe that people from all different religions think that their religion leader is "God" , in your opinion, why do you think that Allah and Buddha are not GOd? who would you consider GOd, or at least, who do you think that religious people could consider God?

And thank you for answering my question from my previous post....I thought that would be the answer, but wanted to make sure...

Sorry, but it's worshipper, not workshiper. Had to get that out there.

You're qualifying a group compared to my personal beliefs. By doing so, you eliminate consideration of individual differences. Through your definition, you've reduced them to nothing more individualized or specific than, generically, "those who believe."

As an analogy, if you lump people from 15 countries into "people," they can be no more than "people" generic.

I do not believe that "people" are without individual, etnic, cultural, etc. differences. And I do not that "believers" all believe the same thing.

God (with a capital G) is the name of the Christian god. A god (with a lower-case g) is by definition a supreme being according to some particular conception or one of several deities presiding over some portion of worldly affairs. There is a difference between the two. Yes, the Christian God is a god, as are Allah and Buddha. Allah is not the Christian God. Allah is a god, but he is the Muslim god.

May be semantics, but one god does not equal another god. They may both be gods but they are not both God.

Sorry, but I use "god" for everyone's god. Honestly, I find it a silly concept. The very logic used to create this god is the LAST logic anyone would use to pick stocks or things that matter on a day to day basis in this life.

There are as many gods out there as there are people believing in them.

I generally do, too, but it just brings out the anal grammar bitch in me. All the gods are gods-with-lower-case-g, but God-with-a-capital-G is the common name for the Christian god, just as Allah is the common name of the Mulim god-with-a-lower-case-g.

Kinda like how "Dad" is a commonly used name for a specific person's father, but "dad" is another name for anyone's father. The capitalization makes the difference. "Did you do this, Dad?" versus "Did your dad do this?"

Think of it this way: Someone was named "Person" by their nutty parents. Now, every human in existance is a person, but only Person is Person. That make sense?

I need to use my spellcheck.... I'm at work, so that's why I misspelled worshipper with work.... see what I mean.....LOL! can't blame me for trying....

I see your point....but mostly I can appreciate what you said: "I do not believe that "people" are without individual, etnic, cultural, etc. differences. And I do not that "believers" all believe the same thing."

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
