I apologize that I am asking a million questions on this forum, but I have another :)

I'm 5 days post op and was told to do a clear liquid diet until a full week after. Today, I wasn't starving, but really felt like my body needed food. So I ate a tiny about of Tomato Soup and some sugar free pudding. I didn't have any trouble getting it down, but I am unsure if when I am full. Obviously, I knew enough to stop eating after the pudding, but how do you know when you're full? Sadly, I'm used to knowing I'm full because I've finished the food on my plate. Do you just measure it out for awhile? Any suggestions?

I think the "feeling of fullness" varies from one person to another but until I got into solid foods I didn't really get "that feeling". I do now though and it's literally a tightness telling me that one more bite should not enter. I've also found that I get the hiccups if I go over by a bite or two. Not pleasant.

I measure out 3oz of meat and 1oz of vegetables. I can't always finish everything on my plate but by weighing my food I make sure that if I do eat it all I am not over eating. This also makes my tracking more accurate. I never eat more than 4oz at a meal.

I still associate 'full' with jamming so much food in that I can't eat any more. Thus I never worry about feeling full. I have pre-measured amounts of food I eat, then I am done. This way I never worry about being 'full'. When I am done, I stop eating regardless of if I am still hungry.

How long ago did you have your surgery?

I replied to the wrong person. How long ago did you have surgery? At 4oz, do you feel satisfied?

Everyone is different. After my surgery, when I was told to get acquainted with my full feeling, I just ate (or drank) very slowly, giving the liquid time to hit my stomach. After a few small spoonfuls, I felt it. It felt like my pouch was expanded to capacity, and one of my nostrils, usually my right, would start to run. And I would stop. It's still that way now, except my right nostril doesn't usually run.

I am 6 weeks post-op. Yes I am satisfied if I am eating dense Protein I often can only eat 2.5 ounces before getting full. I feel a tightness and I burp when i am full. I don't like eating until I get that feeling, but I am still learning how much of certain foods I can eat.

For example, last night I served myself 3oz of salmon and 2 stalks of broccoli. I could only eat 2 oz of the salmon and one stalk of broccoli and I was full. I think the key to being satisfied is dense protein and fats.

You'll know it when you feel it. Think of how you felt after over eating at Thanksgiving. Where your tummy hurts and you can feel in backed up in your throat. That is how you'll feel if you over eat, at least I do. "Full' means I feel pressure in my tummy and just know that it'as time to stop. With Proteins I feel it quick.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
