Psychology Appointment Jitters!!

Recommended Posts

Hi, all! My appointment with the psychologist is tomorrow, and I am so nervous it's unreal! I'm so close to being finished with everything required for surgery, and I hope I don't ruin it with this. I don't know what to expect. She said to plan on being there around 3 hours. What all do they do In THREE HOURS!? I imagine a huge interrogation where they try to trip you up and say you can't handle surgery. Lol! Nah, I know better, but what can I expect?? Please help calm me!

I'm right there with you! I just finished my psychological evaluation and it was fine. I was there for about an hour. The psychologist told me that it depends on your insurance of how many tests you will have to be there. I can only share my experience, I have Cigna and I was only required to take two small test which was true and false and the other other art was agree/ disagree statements. Just answer the the questions don't over think it and you should do fine. I know I was about to lose mind because I only have one appointment left next Wednesday and then I'm done with all of the requirements for the insurance!!! You will do fine it's not hard, you will prob look at some of the statements or questions and smile like " are you seriously asking or saying this?" I walked in with all this "oh my gosh, I hope I do well" and it was not bad at all. So Breathe! Relax -Relate-Release!

Oh, thank you so much for your response! I am absolutely sick over it all! I know I won't sleep tonight worrying about it, but you helped tremendously. Good luck to you, sister!!! [emoji1377]

I was there maybe 30 mins. She asked how long I've been overweight, how ling I've been trying to lose weight, what all I've tried, why I want wt loss surgery. Have I ever been treated for depression etc. It was pretty simple, nothing to greet over just be honest.

It's nothing to worry about, some have tests, either T/F or always, never, sometimes, rarely questions pertaining to life situations or attitude about food. Like - if you were craving an ice cream sundae at midnight would you get dressed and drive to get one? Or have you ever used laxatives for weight loss? And then the interview - ask about what support you have, what negative stress, and what will you do when you encounter stress, and is there any abuse in your history that would impact this process. They mainly want to know if you are suicidal or have eating disorders that need to be addressed before and after surgery. It will be fine.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
