Chili was my go to meal too post-op. I never had problems like you did but it was so good to eat. You'll feel better every day.

I am one year out on the 13th of July and Chili is my go to still. I make it at home but do ok with it at a restaurant. The crock pot has turned into my best friend!

Hi All, I make chili about 3x per month, have made it with all meat types, and by far my favorite is 90% lean ground beef. I get lots of compliments and requests to make it for others. Here is my super easy recipe:

  • 1lb ground meat (90% beef is my choice)
  • 1 packet chili mix (Old El Paso is also my favorite and gluten free)
  • 1 jar of Newman's Mild Salsa
  • 1 can petite diced tomatoes (15 oz or so)
  • 1 can dark red kidney Beans, drained and rinsed (15 oz or so)
  • 1 can corn if desired, drained
  • equivalent of 3/4 can of Water
  1. Brown/cook meat.
  2. Drain Fat
  3. add the rest of the ingredients
  4. Bring to a boil, stirring frequently
  5. cover and cook on low as to not burn the bottom for 1 hour or until the chili turns a nice thick maroon color.

the nutrition on this is:

1 oz is 24 calories and 2 grams of Protein.

You are only 3 eeeks out, right? This is way too much/heavy for 3 weeks out. How about split pea Soup and the like?
I'm 3 months out and have just regained my energy for hiking.
You'll get there, just give it time..

So I took your advice on the food and it definitely helped with three pain. I also took my Premier Protein shakes that's you sweet for me now and blended it with a handful of frozen strawberry and drank the whole thing with no pain. This will definitely help me to reach my Protein goal. Thanks so much.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
