On 06/24/17, my life changed forever

Recommended Posts

So today, I had my VSG.

I'm sore, exhausted, but so excited.

I cheated on my pre op diet (little did I know, I could have eaten veggies!) so my surgeon was unsure whether or not she would be able to do the surgery this morning. Talk about being nervous and scared. But it was my own fault...

When I woke up in recovery, she said my liver was great! And the surgery was successful. I cried and high fived her and passed out again. I remember her saying I wouldn't remember that conversation, but I did! I had a small panic attack in the OR because it was so much going on, but they were all so sweet and made me feel so much more calm about the whole thing... and I woke up to heart shaped bandages over my 5 openings.

You guys. I did it. I really did it. I can't wait to see how much my body and my life change. It's always been so hard to enjoy life feeling the way I have, but now I'm so ready for this huge change.

I would love to see some pictures of post op people from various months just to get a feel for what that overall average is... as well as know what all have you tried since your weight loss. I'm going to start a bucket list :)

My stats are

HW: 267 (before pre op diet)

CW: 252

GW: 135-148 (for now)

Height: 5'6"

The nest 5 days we the most rough for me. I broke down and just cried. I'm saying that, because If you get through the first week with no tears, you now know some poor sap who you are tougher than. And I'd you do break down and cry this week, then you know you're not alone.

What made them difficult? Was it the overall experience or something that was even more emotionally challenging?
I'm an exceptionally emotional person, so I definitely get it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
