I got my sleeve June 7. Yesterday and today I am so missing being able to eat a whole meal. Prior to surgery, I considered how I might feel losing one of my dearest coping mechanisms, but I didn't imagine it would feel like this.

Oh well...this too shall pass.

It's been 1 month today for me. I promise you it's going to get better. My surgeons offer monthly ongoing support groups with a psychologist to deal with our food issues, nutrition & the huge changes we're facing after our gastric sleeve surgery. I hope you have this same support. I've lost 21.9 lbs & am still unable to eat anything except an egg. Everything else is going right through me. I'm drinking my shakes, broths, SF drinks & chewing my SF Popsicles. Today I'm making SF Jello pops! I miss lots of food, especially since I'm a chef, but have not needed my diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol & stomach's GERD/acid reflux Rx's since surgery so this alone helps me out mentally. My starting weight was 218 & my goal weight is 115: but getting a healthy full life is my ultimate goal. Reading & commenting on other's stories has helped a lot. You're going to do well & congrats on taking care of yourself Charlie75. Sending you a big high 5!

You're going through one of the hardest stages right now in my opinion, and it's very common to feel the way you do. Like what was said above, once you start finding your new normal, things get easier and easier. Hang in there!

This is exactly what I was going to say. The first was the worst. I can tell you my new 'normal' now feels as comfortable as my old normal did pre-surgery.

it's hard. The second week I was crying one time because all I could eat was a few bites of puree and my husband was munching on chips. But I'm sure it won't be the last time I get emotional. I'm only on week 3 now. So still have many emotions.

the fact that you acknowledged your feelings and came here and talked about them instead of turning to food is such a huge accomplishment. Count this as a NSV - non-scale victory!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
