Im 8 days post op and I still have this nasty taste in my mouth. no matter how many times I brush. My Water tastes horrible and it makes it hard to keep up with my liquid intake. Has anyone had this problem?

I noticed my taste buds seem to have changed after my surgery. Have you tried Crystal Light? It adds flavor to Water, but completely sugar free. I couldn't get my water intake without my Crystal Light. According to my NUT and Dr it's perfectly acceptable.

its ketosis from being zero carb right now. Your body is adjusting to burning fat as a fuel source and the stank breath is an unfortunate side effect. - btw, your breath stinks too LOL

it will taper off in a few weeks. drink as much as you can to flush the ketones out. I relied heavily on warm Decaf tea.

Yes, it is likely a result of ketosis, which simply means that your diet is low in carbohydrates and will get better as your diet improves. There is a common mythology put out by diet promoters that you need to put up with this in order to burn your fat stores which is untrue - all you need is a suitable caloric deficit, which is what your WLS enforces. People have been successfully navigating their WLS adventures without such side effects for, literally, decades.

I have heard this is normal. I had this happen about a week after surgery. It wasn't constant but it would happen a few times a day at least. Everything had a rotten egg flavor to it. :( It started to taper off and stopped completely after a couple of weeks. Just get your Water however you can. Crystal light was a big help and my NUT also approved herbal tea. There are a lot of mint herbal tea options which was also helpful. Just check with your NUT first to make sure it's okay for your plan.
Hope it goes away soon!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
