Keto is the latest evolution of the low carb craze - Atkins, Zone, South Beach, etc. which emphasizes even greater carbohydrate restriction and higher fat consumption than previous incarnations. "LCHF" (low carb, high fat) and Paleo diets are kissing cousins. Clinically, such diets are used for minimizing weight loss for non-WLS gastrectomy patients and regaining unwanted lost weight.

The Keto Diet is also know as Low Carb High Fat (LCHF). It calls for high fat, moderate Protein and low carb. Google will give you lots of information. Just like any diet it has its promoters and opponents.

We follow LCHF in our house b/c my husband does triathlons and he finds that way of eating benefits his athletic performance. Pre-op, I felt better on it because i wasn't eating as much processed crap - kept by carbs under 60 grams. Many on Keto recommend keeping your carbs at 30 - 50 grams. I found that very difficult to maintain. I personally did not see much weigh loss, despite feeling better.

Now that I am post -op, I will resume when this type of plan when I am cleared for solids. While my husband does high fat, moderate protein and low carb, I will do high protein, moderate fat. This will allow us to cook one meal - he can add the extra fat to his serving. The plan is consistent with my NUT recommendations.

I also found that many of my normal recipes worked with minor substitutions. e.g Use zucchini noodles instead of Pasta, choose higher fat beef, add cheese / butter.

If you want to do something similar without having to buy a book to follow all the stupid rules, you could do what my partner is doing. I had the surgery, but we've committed to the weight loss together. So he limits himself to 2000 calories and 100 carbs per day (he deducts dietary Fiber, though). As long as he stays within those boundaries, he does fine.

      Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

        Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

        Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
