LADIES ONLY- monthly issues.

Recommended Posts

Hey ladies! I wanted to get some opinions or hope someone has had a similar issue... At my highest weight of 404.8, I never used to get a period. Went and saw my OB thinking PCOS was a possibility.. She ruled that out because really my only symptoms were my weight and irregular periods.. did tests and testosterone was normal. so no PCOS. my periods were simply irregular because i was too fat. put me on birth control, got a period every month... I had surgery on October 31, 2016 and that was the last day I have taken birth control. after surgery i was in too much pain to care about the birth control and after the anesthesia wore off I decided to just stay off of it to see if I was regulated. Turns out, I was. I got a period every single month right at the same time every month. I was back to normal! Well, in April I missed my period. Didn't think I was pregnant at all. My period was coming the 30th of every month and April 30th it didnt come.. It did come May 12.. so i thought maybe it was just adjusting to a different time. So I expected it on June 12. well I missed it again this month. Again, not pregnant. saw my OB and she seems to think my body is in shock from surgery and having lost so much so fast that it is off kilter now. Has anyone else had this happen? periods regulate, then go all haywire?

I'm on birth control that takes my period away and I still bled for weeks at a time the first three months.

As you shed fat, hormones are dumped into your system. Everything seems to go nuts! I even had acne for the first time ever and it was on my neck!

I wouldn't worry to much about it, especially if your OB isn't!

I used to have worse acne than I do now. I was thinking maybe it went from being every 28 days to like 45 days or so? she ran some tests on my blood. She is checking my thyroid even though it was normal a year or so pre-op. So maybe we will get some answers, if not she is just gonna chalk it up to body in shock.

My periods have always been on time... even after I got my IUD removed and my cycles shortened to 21-23 days it was still on time and every 21-23 days... my first period after surgery was within the 23 day cycle I had been use to but bow my second period since surgery is crazy... I'm 5 weeks post op today and tomorrow will be 4 weeks since my last period and still nothing... I haven't had a cycle this long since I had birth control... I'm cramping and extremely bloated but nothing. Surgery has thrown it all off I'm guessing and the on and off cramping for the last week to two weeks is tolerable but this bloating is no joke and I just feel huge.

I've had a hysterectomy, so I don't get periods anymore (yay) but my other symptoms went a little crazy after surgery. My skin got oilier, acne popped up, mood swings, stuff like that. Our hormones do swing around a little during weight loss, and after such a dramatic change to the body.

I do think my cycle is just off.. pretty sure I'm starting today... which would mean it's like every 45 days. I think. My skin has actually done the opposite.. acne cleared up and my mood swings calmed down

YES. .YES. YES.

My body lost its ever loving MIND. At first I was regular for the first time in my life. Then about six months out, I missed a period. Then it came back. FOR THIRTEEN HEAVY DAYS. OH MY GAH I thought I was DYING. Then it was regular for awhile and then it would skip. It took a while to regulate to every 28-30 days but now I can even use a period tracker so I can be ready. Before it would just come whenever and I would never know when, except my cravings for sugar and salt would go up.

I also have a fibroid, so my periods have stayed heavy but they did regulate eventually.

Mine finally came on the 26th I do believe. It was exactly two weeks late. I'm just frustrated.. I've been at the same weight for the past month and haven't lost anything else! I really hope I'm not done losing because I'm still 50 pounds from my goal and 70 lbs from the doctors goal.. ugh.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
