RHmama 42 Posted June 20, 2017 When does the pain at the main incision go away?! I'm 19 days out and most of the time I'm okay but if I have to cough or sneeze, my incision feels like it's on fire and about to burst open! Hurts when getting out of bed too. The incision is completely healed on the outside. How long does it take before there is NO pain? I also get bad pain in my lower right side of my stomach that goes around to my back, that usually doesn't last more than a day then randomly recurs. 1 Honeypenny reacted to this
BeingShawnie 8 Posted June 20, 2017 You might want to check with your surgeon. I know we're all different but I had no pain from my incisions after maybe 3 days. Sure, there was tenderness for a period of time but nothing like what you've described. I'd call the doctor ASAP. 1 Honeypenny reacted to this
naturegirl 320 Posted June 20, 2017 Every one heals differently. Your body did go through a major surgery so it might take longer for some things like muscles to heal than for the skin to close up. I would give it more time (at least a week) and if there is still pain to check back with your doctor. Of course if the pain worsens or you notice anything abnormal to check with your physician sooner. FWIW- I'm 2 years out and occasionally still have pangs of pain near my incision sites. They don't last long, but as said to be nerves. I had similar pains following childbirth regarding my stretched out skin. 1 Honeypenny reacted to this
MSinger 348 Posted June 20, 2017 I'm a month out and still having mild pain at the large incision when I sneeze or get out of bed. As long as your pain is gradually decreasing instead of increasing you're on the right path, it just may take longer for some people. 1 Honeypenny reacted to this
Honeypenny 8 Posted June 21, 2017 Watch for signs of infection! If you spike a temp more that 101, or start vomiting....go straight to the ER. In the meantime, at least call your surgeons office and let them know what's going on. They can decide whether you need to come in. better safe than sorry! Best of luck to you
RHmama 42 Posted June 21, 2017 The PA from my surgeon's office called and it is apparently normal. It is only with certain movements (coughing, sneezing, rolling over), that are associated with the muscle contracting. Even though my incisions are healed, the sutures underneath on the muscle may take more time. They only worry if the pain is constant and there was nausea or something. So I'm going to not worry! 1 Joann454 reacted to this
