SeaQuin 9 Posted June 19, 2017 Good day all. I have been following this website for sometime and appreciate all the great info and discussion. I am at the point in my journey where I have been discussing which surgery would be best for me. It is between the sleeve and gastric by-pass. I am sitting on the fence. Any pros and cons anyone can pass along would be greatly appreciated. This is a harder decision than I thought it would be. Thanks in advance Lesley Q. rainyann 118 Posted June 19, 2017 What does the surgeon recommend for you? I was fairly certain I wanted the sleeve and the surgeon said it was the right one for me... Sometimes it depends on the amount of weight you have to lose, perhaps not always
VSG_Man_Vs_Food 55 Posted June 20, 2017 In my opinion, sleeve appears to be most common these days and has the lowest surgery risk. Bypass seems to be good if you suffer from reflux or want the dumping reaction in order to avoid sweets. DS seems to be recommended for higher BMIs and more extreme cases. I chose sleeve because I still want to be able to eat most foods normally once I hit goal, just in smaller quantities. If you haven't already, check out the obesity coverage website for lots of good info.HW: 330 lbSW: TBD 6/27/2017CW: 302 lbGW: 180 lbVSG, Dr. Jawad, Orlando, FL 1 shericrazylady reacted to this
SeaQuin 9 Posted June 20, 2017 Thanks all. My surgeon has given me the final choice that's why I thought I'd ask "the experts". I to like the idea of eating regular food albeit in smaller amounts. All opinions gratefully accepted.

Unless foe special cases of reflux issues, he said he thought sleeves were more effective- less changing of your body .
hmills653 365 Posted June 20, 2017 I chose sleeve bc I was more nervous about the re-routing of my intestines being more invasive and dumping syndrome scares me. I'm three weeks tomorrow and happy with my choice. I've already lost 28# since the surgery. JKC2016 82 Posted June 24, 2017 Sleeve has way outstripped bypass. Seems like a better choice for nutrition and long term health. 1 Missy161 reacted to this

Missy161 395 Posted July 14, 2017 My husband had RNY - gastric bypass 11 years ago. Issues there are problems absorbing Vitamins and not being able to use Advil or nsaids. Also if you have any issues with liver/ bike ducts etc there's no access via egd. He had a lot of complications as well. I had my vsg 6/22- so far so good.Good luck with your decision. Trust your surgeon.

Missy161 395 Posted July 15, 2017 I'll add to to my prayer list! It will go well. There at so much fewer complications with the sleeve.

Sullie06 1,013 Posted July 20, 2017 Best of luck to you. I had the sleeve and have had no complications, I can eat everything I did pre-op except for eggs and recovery wasn't bad. 1 Missy161 reacted to this
