I am 3 months post-op RNY. We are going on s 7 day cruise in about 3 weeks and I am extremely anxious about the availability of all of the food. I have been telling myself that if I feel the need to snack, that it must be Protein or veggies. Any other tips and suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Keep busy - do the shore tours. Eat only at meal times. Keep yourself hydrated with lots of Water - flavor it with fruit -I'm sure the bartenders will be happy to do that for you. Work out in the fitness center. Do activities around the ship. Don't go near the buffets unless it is meal time. Keep a positive attitude. You've got this.

Walk the deck...every day! Cruise ship would be a terrible place to experience dumping syndrome and puking because of overeating, be very mindful of what goes on your plate. In fact I'd recommend using a saucer dish rather than a regular plate. Who cares who sees you, you'll never see those people again and they don't know your struggles. Be cautious at meal time but have fun with activities. Move more eat less you will be fine.

I went on a cruise last year, before I even thought of surgery. Yes, food is everywhere so temptation is everywhere, but there are lots of healthy options. Free Water and tea, lots of meat and veggies/salad bars, and the portions at the formal dinner aren't super-huge. I remember our ship (Carnival) had a mongolian grill where you could pick out your meat and veggies and they'd cook it to your specifications. As for the excursions, you can pick one that includes some exercise. We did one where we hiked a mile or two in the jungle, then went rafting through caves. There were biking excursions, longer hikes, swimming/snorkeling, all kinds of stuff to do. Have fun!

My family and I are going on a cruise in November. I thought the same thing. But I looked up our ship, their sample dinner menus and viewed a video of the buffet. I have a game plan for what I will eat already. I plan to work out in the gym and take my overactive 20 month old with me for walks. Maybe she'll wear out and take a nap.

My strategy was to ALWAYS take the stairs. I paid a little extra for the fine dining restaurants. Walked the decks. Took a class. Shore excursions
Room service. Lots of options besides carb loaded buffets. Bon voyage

Hey I'm a March sleever and going on a cruise first week of July. My plan is gym every day. I arranged with the cruise line to bring Protein Shakes on board, and checked menus to plan where and what I can eat. Checkout cruisingwithgambee.com to research what's served in your ship. You will have plenty of options to do mainly Proteins and veggies. Good luck and enjoy!

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
