BDutchess 17 Posted June 18, 2017 For those who had surgery in Mexico, did you arrive a day prior to surgery or the day of surgery, how many days were you in the hospital, how many days in a hotel and on what day did you fly back home? Did anyone stay extra days in San Diego before flying back? Thanks!
Here_I_Go_Again 62 Posted June 18, 2017 I haven't had surgery yet, I'm scheduled to have surgery Mon 7/3 Dr. Illan. I was told I could fly in same day before 11 am and I could fly home Thurs after 1 pm. I've decided to fly in Sun and I gave myself an extra day. I will leave Tijuana Thurs but fly home Friday morning. I need my mind at ease, to many flights get delayed these days. 2 BDutchess and Alex Brecher reacted to this
Apple1 2,572 Posted June 18, 2017 I flew in the day before, had my surgery on Monday, stayed in the hospital till Wednesday, at the hotel till Friday morning. We spent Friday and Saturday in SanDiego and flew home on Sunday. I was walking pacific beach and we went to Sea World. I just walked slowly and rested when I needed to. 1 Alex Brecher reacted to this

MarinaGirl 609 Posted June 18, 2017 (edited) I arrived in San Diego the day before surgery (on Sunday), spent 3 days in hospital, 2 days post-op at a fabulous hotel in TJ, 1 day at a friend's place in So Cal, then flew back home on Sun evening. 1 week total. I was taken care of really well by my surgeon and his nurse, driver, and office mgr. It was a mini-vacay after the 2nd day post-surgery. Berry78 4,261 Posted June 18, 2017 I flew in the day of surgery.. some good and bad about that. Good.. no real waiting jitters.. didn't have time! Bad.. was very dehydrated when I arrived and took days to rehydrate (pee clearish), even with the IV. I had a 6 hour flight, and that is very drying. Surgery was Monday. Stayed Monday and Tuesday at the hospital, went to the hotel Wed and Thurs, drove across the border and flew home on Friday. 1 Apple1 reacted to this

I didn't want to be on a long flight not being able to drink anything. For people with long flights I would definitely recommend arriving the day before. CarmellaX 22 Posted June 23, 2017 I'm flying in the same day as surgery. Staying 2 nights at the hospital and one additional night at the hotel. I think patients with a higher BMI and/or other health issues stay an additional night at the hotel with Dr. Illan. Of course I had the option to come in a day early... but the flight availabilities worked out beautifully with the driver pick up times. If there is an issue with flight delays I'm sure Bill the coordinator will have my back and help figure it out. I trust the bariatricpal team. 😊 1 leesa794 reacted to this

Maybe we will ride together to the hospital? 😁 Edited June 24, 2017 by CarmellaX
Mike LaVelle 36 Posted June 24, 2017 If you fly in same day, what time does that put the surgery?

From all the patients I've followed I anticipate being out of surgery by mid afternoon. I'm sure I won't have a more specific time until I get there. 🙂
