I'm having surgery in the morning, and am feeling lots of uncomfortable stuff: fear :o(of dying, general anesthesia, etc.) last minute "ditch and run" feelings ("OMG there's a restaurant, maybe I'll just go and eat a huge dinner and forget this whole surgery idea!"); irritable (" why is everyone talking about food? Commercials, billboards, magazines..."); and general "have I thought of everything I need to do/buy/have on hand, etc. before going to the hospital?".

I guess at this point in my "old life" I'd have turned to COMFORT food to deal with all these feelings. And now I'm not. That's a victory, right? I should be feeling great :tired

It is normal to have all of those feelings. I will say a little prayer for you! You are going to do just fine.

Hi Holly,

I had my band on 9/12/07 and can remember the feelings you are having right now. As an RN myself, we just know too much about what can happen in the OR. Just remember God gave us this surgery and the chance to make ourselves healthy.

He will bring you through and your New life will begin. Don't worry so much.

The comfort food cravings are all too familiar for me as well.

Just remember it will be painful to eat those foods. I know this

from my stupid experiences.

Take care and God Bless.

Holly I am right there with you girl!

Last Tuesday I was so thrilled that is was the "eve" of my surgery.... Just think of all the fun you are going to have because you get to....

1. Hanging out with cute doctors! (And you won't be wearing clothes!)

2. Speaking of clothes...at the end of the month...you may have to buy new clothes, because your old ones are too BIG!

3. You'll learn to really appreciate the fine taste of JELL-O again.

4. On all liquid diet there are hardly any dishes to do!

5. ...and there is never that pestky problem of, "what-to-make-for-dinner?" because it is always the same. Just think of all the time you will save not having to think anymore.

6. When you decide you can't watch TV or read a magazine because of those ads you just surf TMZ.com and watch how Britney Spear's life has fallen apart and then you will feel much better.

Lastly...(my personal favorite because this happened to me)

7. After the surgery they give you so much CO2 gas that you bloat up...that days afterwards when your in public people ask you, "When are you due?" and since you really look pregnant you can say,"Next week!"

I too had the same exact feelings. My husband was with me before the surgery on Oct. 3rd. I remember being in the room telling him that maybe I should not do it. I'd already had my IV and everything to start the whole process. I was so nervous and second-guessing myself even though I knew that this was the best thing for me and my family. I prayed so long about it. Everything went just fine.....I have to admit though, I had a crying moment yesterday when I thought, "Can I just have them take it back out?" Can you believe that? But I believe it's close to that time of month and you know how our hormones get! I was a mess.....now today, I'm having lots of happy thoughts! Things have gone great, absolutely GREAT. I only have some pain below my port-incision now. I've been up and at'em since the 2nd day! So, I know where you're coming from.....I'll say an extra prayer for you and I can say, you're doing the right thing! Take Care and God Bless......talk to you soon!

Dear Holly,

You've been so kind in thinking of me and I've been so wrapped up in myself I didn't even realise that you haven't had your surgery yet. I'm really sorry. I hope that all goes well for you today as I'm sure it will. If you need to get back on the web when you get home then go for it. I will be around as am off work for the next two weeks.

I'm just wondering how I'm going to fill my days and hours if I can no longer turn to food for something to do when I'm bored, being greedy, etc, etc. I've no idea what it's going to mean. Same goes for alchohol - I'm going to be rich!

We're in it together!

Chat tomorrow.

Best wishes-I'll be thinking of you.

Jude

I'm saying a quick prayer for you before I go under the knife myself today. Here's hoping you will look back on this as the blessing so many of us here have.

See ya on the band side.

Oh Holly you poor chicken. Sending you big hugs from Downunder :)

I think next to Doctors, we Nurses are probably the worst patients because we know what is happening. Try to focus on the positives Holly and that you will be in great hands while you have your surgery. I'm sure you have memories of those patients with positive attitudes who make smooth sailing for themselves, I'm sure you'll be one of them!

Look forward to hearing from you when you're on the band side! Don't forget to think of somewhere lovely to go during ur anaesthetic, I always tell my patients that!

Holly,

You will do just wonderful. I look back on my experience and think I made it out to be more dramatic because being a nurse I know what goes on in the OR. I also expexted the same care to be given to me that I give to my patients....I guess we all have different standards of what excellent pt care is. But, I will take this experience being a pt and use it when I go back to work and try to be even more compassionate to those I care for. We just have to learn to make the best of everything. I am now on post-op day number 5, and I think all of the swelling in my stomach is gone becasue my Water and thin Protein Shakes go down just fine. You will do great, and the pain is short lived.......update as soon as you feel up to it!!!

Loads of support!!!

:) Twyla :clap2:

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
