I don't know what changed.

I'm 7 days post-op from a band to sleeve revision. I've been doing great surgically but came down with bronchitis. Nothing has bothered me with other people eating around me. Pre-op, post-op diets all went/going well. I took a little nap and I just came into the living room with my family and I was hit with the huge smell of food and everyone is eating. I almost fell over it was so strong. I started bawling. I couldn't stop. Weirdest thing. Tearing up now writing this. I sat down and thought "what I have done? I can't be like this and break down like a toddler for the rest of my life." Please tell me I'm normal and it will pass. I want this. I've worked so hard for this. But I broke down today and that's not normal. I'm still sticking to my Water, broth, and nebulizer for now. Thanks for letting me vent.

Totally normal and it will pass! I remember having a breakdown driving by a Golden Corral restaurant a few days after surgery. I'd never been to one before, never wanted to go to one before, but the fact that there were people inside who could enjoy a buffet while I was stuck sipping liquids was just too much for me to handle at that moment. It's funny when I think about it now but at the time I was a wreck! The sensitivity to smells goes away too. Hang in there. It really does get better

Hi there! Cheer Up, Sister ! I'm so sorry to hear about the bronchitis - keep on breathing , really ... you went through a big experience - surgery, anaesthesia, and someone to talk with in real space is so important. My husband doesn't cook big meals and eats in a separate space as I heal. The smells make me crazy! Can you do something kind for yourself? Take some herbal tea and find some tasty broths... i got a vaporizer and some essential oils to claim my space. Meditation and an afternoon nap ... can you tell your family how you feel and ask for what you want and need? Do you have a counselor ? So I had surgery on 8/8/17 and got a sore throat and cough for 3 days - i cried and journaled about it. I do feel alone - no doubt. Eating is so connected with community and comfort. I ask for hugs .. i am sad about not having raw veggies - so i chewed some cucumber until i spit it out and then made some cucumber water ... i ordered Protein waters on Amazon and make jellos with unflavored dry protein and dilute cranberry juices -/ You Can Do This ... You Know Why You Did It ... Love Yourself for your Courage.
Thats what I'm going do - One Day At A Time.
Cheers!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
