Thyroid & Diabetes I need advice please :)

Recommended Posts

I'm worried about my pre op test I haven't been approved for surgery yet but I did reach out to my PCP to check my levels now so he can make changes to my medication if necessary to prepare me for surgery. Any advice for me should I worry? The last time I did blood work the only concern my doctor had was my blood sugar.

Were they doing your blood sugar, or your HBA1c?

It's good to keep an eye on it while on meds and going through surgery, as for most people their blood sugar plummets, and it becomes very easy to experience lows. I experienced my first low 2 days into my 90 day pre-op diet.

I have type 1 Diabetes as well as hypothyroidism, and my Endocrinologist and surgeon are really excited for me to have my procedure. Blood work for my thyroid has come back within range the last few times I've had blood work, and my A1C was 7.9 (not the best, but not the worst). I thought me endocrinologist and surgeon would be more concerned with my diabetes and hypothyroidism, but both of them have reassured me that this surgery will help with those things, so not to worry. I hope everything goes well for you!!

I have hypothyroid and Im going to a seminar the 21st so that's one of the first questions I'm going to ask when I make my dr appointment.

I've been hypothyroid for 12 years. I was also pre-diabetic. I was sleeved a little over 2 years ago, lost 100+ pounds, and have easily maintained my weight loss with decent food choices and exercise.

My metabolic rate also seems higher today than it was before surgery. I can maintain my weight on 2000+ calories daily now. Prior to surgery, I could gain weight rapidly and fiercely.

Here's the catch: I was a dreadfully slow loser. I lost an average of 6 pounds monthly with my sleeve, possibly due to my hypothyroidism and insulin resistance. However, I'm pleased with my results.

I believe my hba1c , during your pre op diet did your doctor require you to drink shakes? I have chosen glucerna hunger smart for my shake it is really good and helps with blood sugar spikes throughout the day. I will have to consume 5 shakes a day.

I was forced onto Glucerna. I kept regurgitating every kind I tried.. even tried having the fruity flavors with added cinnamon and other stuff, just couldn't do it. In the end, I wound up doing a super low carb, high Protein diet, and lost 80 pounds during the 3 month pre-op diet.

I also had an issue with the fact that Glucerna I had was like 26'ish grams of carbs per bottle.. and my RD (dietitian) wanted me to have 6 of them a day.. over 150g of carbs as a minimum. Made no sense to me.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
