I only had a few days of pain and by the end of week one, I had no pain at all. Now that I am 3 weeks out, I have started getting severe back pain and the incision where the drainage tube was, is severely infected! Hope your pain is minimal! The more you try to move around the better you will feel. Good luck to you!

Hi All-
how long were you in pain after your surgery?
Thanks!

I am 2 days post op. Did not take meds at all today. A bit sore getting up from bed or toilet but overall doing great.

Actual pain did not last longer than the first evening for me. I was sore for a few days after, but not in pain.

My surgery was May 1 and I am still having abdominal pain. However, I have fibromyalgia so I am unsure if this is normal or not.

I stopped taking narcotic pain meds on day 3, and stopped all pain meds after week 1. Any pain after that was just momentary on my incisions if I moved the wrong way. I'm 3weeks post op and only feel an occasional twinge of pain with movement, however, I still wear my abdominal binder when I'm walking because the movement makes my incisions sore.

I didn't really have any bad incision pain after the first night. I did have gas pain and bloating for 3-4 days. My body was sore, but I didn't need pain meds after day 2 and just took Tylenol if I felt any soreness. I did have a pain in my side for a day or two about 2 weeks postop, that just went away on its own.

I had a pain pump in the hospital and used it (mostly to sleep). It hurt to stand erect for a few days and getting from sitting to standing was uncomfortable for a few days but it wasn't at all unbearable. I used narcotics for three days and then nothing, not even Tylenol. I had zero gas pain as well. Hoping the same for you!

I had VSG to RNY 6 days ago. Never had any pain or gas. Had a lot of shoulder gas pain when I had VSG 5 1/2 years ago. I am just tired when I go up the stairs and feels like my heart is racing!

Why did u convert

Because my acid was out of control and the only way it could be stopped was to do RNY. After a sleeve (5 1/2 years ago) , you still have acid, but not so with an RNY. As it was, when the doctor got in there, I had so much thinning of scar tissue from the VSG that the acid basically iniulated it, and it was ready to rupture. So my doctor had to fix it before e could do the RNY. So if you have bad acid, I would go RNY over VSG, because it seems that a lot of people are converting.

I had surgery Friday, discharged Saturday and took last pain drugs on Tuesday.
I described the pain like having done a monster ab workout at the gym. Sharpest pains were getting up and down from chair or toilet or bed. Going upstairs was fine.
Standing for longer periods would make me sore and tired.
My incisions then started itching so I used ice packs to help calm them down.
My dermabond glue is coming off and the new skin is sensitive so if I bump into countertop or something I get a small reminder but nothing that requires drugs.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
