starfishwish 129 Posted June 14, 2017 I am 11 days post op. I lost 5 pounds in the first week and so far have gained .5 this week. What gives???? I am following my guidelines like the Bible. Water, walking, low sodium, fat free sugar free liquids. I can start purées Friday. I didn't expect to lose it all at once, but 5 pounds Is very frustrating. dashofsunshine 875 Posted June 14, 2017 At 11 days post op, your body is still trying EXTREMELY hard to recover from the trauma of massive internal surgery. You just had your stomach cut out and stapled back together. Your body is literally in panic mode. It has zero idea what is happening and is trying to pick up the pieces and find some sense of normalcy. The early days are paved with stalls, 10 lbs here and no pounds there, etc. As your body regains its equilibrium and begins to heal, it will hopefully respond better. But please remember that it takes months - many, many months - for your body to fully recover from such an enormous surgery. You've got science & math on your side - the weight WILL come off, if you stick to your plan try to be kind to yourself and let your body recover, without stressing so heavily over the scale. Good luck! 6 MBird, Maximilian73, AmandaWho and 3 others reacted to this
Tiki Toli 10 Posted June 14, 2017 This is what's crazy about the human body, I just posted another topic that I'm concerned that I am loosing weight too quickly. 23.1 pounds in in 7 days which doesn't seem healthy to me. I am also following all my diet guidelines, so I don't get it. I plan on talking to my dietician about it when I see them next week. 3 starfishwish, ProudGrammy and youngs2twins reacted to this
starfishwish 129 Posted June 14, 2017 Thank you for the kind words. Unfortunately, after so many years of doing so, stressing over the scale is all I know. Along with new eating habits and exercise habits, that is something I guess I'll have to work out. I just look at that scale not budging and feel like things will never change. I know I can't compare myself to others, but it's difficult not to when you read about 20 pound losses in the first week 2 Vsgneeded and ProudGrammy reacted to this

I have had so many scale disappointments over the years, weighing myself is always a distressing experience for me. Just said this in another post, but I'll say it again - stay off the scale for the first month. I'd hate for all of the progress I've made outside of the scale could potentially be undermined simply because my body might be hanging onto Water weight the day I decided to weigh myself. Focus on your water, Protein, and activity. Your body is mending itself which tends to cause water retention, if your muscles are sore, that causes water retention, hormones, salt... there are just too many variables right now. 1 starfishwish reacted to this

My body feels different to me. I can feel my weight loss even if it's not showing on the scale. So the scale can collect dust right now! 1 MSinger reacted to this
