Day 5 post op:

Just wanted to write a quick little update this morning. To day is day 5 post op LBL and thigh Lipo. I am so sore this morning, mostly because I just can't find a comfortable position to sleep in. I really wish I had invested in a recliner! I've been sleeping on the couch downstsairs, and while it's ok for a little cat nap, it has been less than helpful for a full night's sleep. My lower back is definitely feeling the impact of overcompensating for the incisions and walking bent over. None of it is excruciating, just annoying. I'm really hoping I can start sleeping in my own bed soon!

I hopped on the scale this morning. I was fully aware the numbers would be up due to all the swelling but was just curious and wanted to track. I was 169.4 on the morning of surgery, and today I was 176. I'm not worried about it and just keepPushing the fluids and giving it time :).

I think I'm going to try to shower and change my clothes today. It'll probably feel good just to clean off! My last shower was the day I left the hospital (Wednesday). I'm not dirty or gross, but sometimes a nice hot shower is just good for the soul! I honestly expected to be more oozy or weepy from my incisions, especially the lipo, but that hasn't been the case at all. I was fully prepared with chux pads to put on my furniture but haven't had to use them at all!

Well, I guess that's my update for this morning. I'll keep you all posted on how things go!

Have a great day!!

My surgeon gave me Valium to help with the lower back pain (who knew it was good for muscle spasms?) & it saved me! Once I was able to walk upright again, my back was better. So glad you're having a pretty easy recovery! Hope it continues to be uneventful!

I'm in Denver too! I had my procedure done at Rose. (Obviously a while away from goal). Who was your bariatric surgeon?

Day 6 post op :). Feeling really good today! Yesterday was a little rough, only in that I think I over did things and wasn't feeling very well by the end of the day. We're having our bathrooms tiled upstairs, and I went to take a peek. Like a ding dong, I caught my sandal on the lip of one of the stairs and fell not once, but twice. So stupid of me. It hurt, but i caught myself with my arms, and didn't do any damage. I spent the rest of the afternoon resting. Took two Percocet before bed, and slept in our chair vs on the couch. Slept until around 5:30am, woke up, took some meds, then went back to sleep until about 8:30. Feeling soooo much better now! Plan for today is just to take it easy. I noticed I'm able to stand a bit straighter today, so I'm slowly and gently trying to stretch my abdomen. The incision on my back hasn't hurt at all, but the poor muscles are sore from waking hunched all the time. I did take a Valium last night after diner to see if it would help relax those muscles. I think it did help a little!

Random stats:
Current weight 177lb (up 8lb from surgery, but obviously swelling)
Waist circumference before surgery 32", right now 36"

Funny because it definitely looks smaller than before, but that swelling is crazy.

Thanks for reading all my crazy long posts. [emoji173]️

End of post op day 6: today was a good day pain wise! I took one Percocet around 7pm because I was a bit sore and we were planning on leaving the house for dinner (wanted to Celebrate my husband for Father's Day).

Tough part for me today was just being a bit grumpy because I can't carry my normal work load. I'm a wife, mom, and nurse...so sitting on my duff has not been easy. When I do get the energy to get something done, I wear out in about 10 minutes and need to rest. I know this is normal, and I really should knock it off and just rest...it's just Really really hard! I'll be sleeping in the chair downstairs again tonight, since it has been the most comfortable so far, but can't wait to sleep in my own bed again :). Hopefully next week!

I can't believe tomorrow will be one whole week once I went in for surgery! Time is flying by! I'm still counting my blessings that recover has been smooth sailing so far. My incisions all seem to be healing well, no bleeding or oozing. I have started unzipping my garment once or twice a day for 10-15 minutes just to let my skin breath and take a small break from the compression. It feels sooooo good, haha!

Hopefully tonight will bring a restful night of sleep, and tomorrow will continue to reign my energy! I took a quick pick of my tummy while reclining in the chair... still can't believe this is MY stomach! [emoji173]️[emoji173]️[emoji173]️IMG_6756.JPG IMG_6757.JPG

Quick update for post op day 7: I had more energy today and started to feel more human! I was able to tidy up a bit and even did a load of dishes! Felt good to do something productive! Still swollen, but feeling less uncomfortable than I did yesterday, so that was nice! Today was the first day since surgery I didn't take a nap (aka randomly fall asleep in the chair)! My husband has been so incredibly supportive through all of this that I offered to put our daughter to bed tonight so he could have at least a few minutes to himself to relax. He has been doing everything since I went in to the hospital, and I can't thank him enough!

I have my second post op appointment tomorrow. Hopefully at least one of my drains will be removed (maybe even two). They haven't been terrible, but it'll be nice to not have to deal with them for much longer!

I'm definitely able to stand up straighter. When I'm up and moving I try to slowly stretch to a more upright position. I think it helps. Pain was almost non-existent today. Even with the increase in activity I felt really good!

Well that's it for Day 7. I'll update again tomorrow after my post op :)

Had a post op check up today! I'm 8 days out from LBL and thigh Lipo. Healing has been going really well! Hardest part is just being stuck at home and not being able to do too much. I've had more energy the past two days, so I've been able to do a little cleaning. We've had painters and flooring people at the house since we're getting ready to go on the market (yep, terrible timing, but this surgery was booked months ago, and an opportunity to move from Colorado to Virginia came up after. It was an offer too good to refuse). Anyway, having everyone here during my recovery has been a bit annoying. I feel like I'm confined to my living room and I'm ready for everyone to just go away. Not very nice, I know...especially since they've all been very kind and doing a great job... I would just love some peace and quiet. Our dogs freak out every time they see the flooring Guy and bark like crazy! Very annoying!

Anyway...back to the post op... one of my drains was removed, as suspected, the other two stayed in. They're both right at the cusp of being removed, but I'd rather them stay in a few extra days than risk a seroma. They should hopefully come out at my next visit on Friday. They changed the tape on my incisions and everything looks great. My surgeon took a pic of the back incision so I could see it, so I'll attach it here. I think it looks really good! Peeling the tape off felt sooooooo good, lol. I have been so itchy, so removing the tape felt great!

I'm going to try sleeping in my own bed tonight. I still feel most comfortable at an angle, so I'll use a bunch of pillows to prop myself up.

I think that's it for now. So far so good!! [emoji1]IMG_6780.JPG

One more post before bed! I had just enough energy left at the end of the day to take a quick shower. This is only my second shower since coming home from the hospital, so only my second time completely removing my compression garment (which feels sooooo good by the way!). I was checking myself out (still getting to know this new body and make sure everything looks good and is healing normally). That meant getting a really good look at the bruising from my lipo! Just so you're aware, this bruising is very normal and is part of the healing process. LUCKILY, it looks worse than it feels! My surgeon has me taking arnica to help with bruising, and i know this will get better. BUT, just want to share the real experience, so here in all their glory are the bruises on my inner thighs from the lipo... IMG_6791.JPG IMG_6792.JPG IMG_6793.JPG IMG_6794.JPG

Has anyone heard of places in Mexico or the Dominican Republic that offer plastic surgery at a much lower cost? I used to have a co-worker that went to the DR, stayed at a resort for plastic surgery for a week and it cost $7000. I doubt I'm going to be able to afford $22000!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
