It looks like Phyl and I are the lucky ones that don't need a card for the senior menu! WooHoo! I've been checking out menus at all our favorite restaurants. I don't feel too concerned about choosing the right foods. DH and I can share some, but he doesn't always like what I like (go figure). The appetizer menu and doggie bags are a good option.

Tomorrow will be an interesting challenge. It's our 44th wedding anniversary and we're going to the Space Needle for lunch. I looked at their lunch menu online and nothing is grabbing me! Looking for a seafood option. They have a $25 per person minimum, so won't work to try to share something. Unless they let us order off the dinner menu... I remember last time we were there I saw a seafood platter appetizer for about $50! If DH would agree, that might be a good option. Otherwise I'll probably be eating the inside of a sandwich. I'm way too tight to do bread these days at all. DH made me a tuna melt for lunch today... just one slice of 45 calorie Sara Lee bread and I was miserable for hours! Not able to eat much at all. I've already lost the 1.3 lb I gained on our 3 wk vacation in my first two days home.

Congrats on the 44th anniversary!!

I loved your eat the insides of a sandwich comment. Last night hubby and I went for Mexican and I ate the inside of a burrito, make that a half of a burrito. He loves it as then I get a doggy bag and he gets the other half for Breakfast. He loves left overs for breakfast regardless of what they are.

HA! Another household where the doggie never sees the inside of the doggie bag. My shelties have been trying to tell me they are the only dogs in the world who are so deprived. Lying little furballs...

I think my days of pizza for breakfast are over. Too bad. I can live with that!

Phyl, you are doing so great! Your before and after pics really inspire me!! Congrats on your anniversary. I'm giving my parents their 50th next weekend! God has truely blessed their marraige.

I have that card to for the restaurants. But as mentioned, kids menus are always starch related, like their school lunches. I eat out 2-3 times per wk and have had no problems ordering off appetizer or sharing with my daughter. Last night we tried a new place for our family dinner out. DH shared his Mongolian beef with me. My praise is that since my 2nd fill (now 3cc's in a 10cc band), I can barely get 1/2cup down!! Granted I'm only 4days post fill, I ask the Lord to allow this to linger a while. My next fill is 9wks out. Keep me in your prayers for His strength in this.

God bless all!

Phyl, how did the anniversary celebration go? Congratulations on 44 years together! It will be 48 for DH and I this October and I almost can't believe that. Time sure flies when you are having fun, doesn't it? (and most of the time it HAS been fun!)

I wish you many more celebrations!

I really need some prayers. If you are not an animal lover don't waste your time reading this, but if you do - please help!! My DH and I leave for Tijuana in the morning and my surgery is Wed. I', not at all nervous, scared or otherwise feeling negaive at all EXCEPT I AM VERY ANGRY with myself and VERY WORRIED about one of my darling animal companions. This weekend my DH was away at work and so I wanted to reflect on what is about to happen. So I went away camping with my 2 dogs and for the forst time, took my oldest kitty Spooky, who is a severe asthmatic. It's a story, but in a nutshell I am an idiot to have taken poor Spooky cat with me - he is back in the hospital on oxygen not doing well AT ALL. Send him a prayer for me would you? I know he's "just a cat" but he is my baby and he is struggling again. (I nearly lost him in May) I thought the fresh air would do him a world of good. He HATED the drive out (about an hour away) until he went into the backseat with the dogs and then he calmed down. Until he did settle down then, I had even thought about turning around and coming home. I should have. But once we got there he seemed to really enjoy himself that afternoon and night. I tethered him to my chair while he played in the grass, chasing butterflies, and later on chillin' in the motorhome while I took the dogs for a walk. Well, yesterday morning he started coughing so I packed us all up and headed home. Got about 1/2 way and remembered that I had left one of the ceiling vents open in the motorhome (DAMN IT!!) so had to go ALL THE WAY BACK (an extra hour of driving which he DIDN'T need or like) and by last night his respiratory rate soaring up to 39 (should be 28 top end). So at 1AM, back to the vets he went. I was crying so hard on the way hme I could hardly drive. I am so STUPID! He's just been so normal lately that I forgot he is a fragile little guy. They're keeping him until we get back (if he survives it this time poor baby) I'm an absolute mess today. Can't even really talk too much 'cuz I start to cry. Was up until after 3 and top that overtiredness with everything going on for me I guess, let alone now wondering if he is going even to pull through this again. I can't imagine him dieing alone without me with him... My God... and I can't hardly even think about what going to be happening to me. I hope the IV and catheter hurts me like hell... I feel so damn bad for him. I just called to check in and they haven't been able to take him off of the oxygen for more than 5 minutes. I am so scared for him!

Sorry for rambling, I am just so upset - he's 15 and I've had him since he was a baby.

Thank you so much - I appreciate every prayer we can get!

With much gratitude (& tears!)

Stacey

Hi, Joann,

Thanks! Anniversary was great. Space Needle menu was not exactly as on the internet, but I got grilled salmon & it was good. We went to Pike Place Market after lunch and then down to the waterfront. It was a fun day.

Stacey, my prayers are for your little kitty and for you. I hope he will be okay. I hope you will be okay, too - I hate to think of you so worried about kitty and feeling so bad. Your heart was in the right place, wanting him to enjoy some time outdoors with his buddies. I pray your surgery will go well and you will have a speedy recovery - and many more years with Kitty.

God Bless...

Your anniversary celebration sounds like fun, Phyl. I would love to visit Seattle - it sounds like a beautiful city. Maybe someday I can be asking you for advice on what attractions to visit! Glad you had such a good day...

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
