I just had my lap band surgery last Wednesday. My doctor said it was a text book surgery. Praise God! I am still a little sore. Can anyone tell me when this soreness might go away?:help:

Congratulations Pleasantlake!!!!!

It will take a few days to feel better and move around better. I know I was really worried about my band and maybe babied it a little longer. I just didn't want to do anything to hurt it :)

Praise God you are on your way :)

Hugs & Prayers,

I prayed that if it was God's will to have my surgery, then he would grant my prayers. And he did.

Amazing

Hi, I haven't seen this thread before. At least I don't think I have.

I love the escalator man! WOW what a gift from God!

I have had the band for over 2 years now and it hasn't been easy at times. In the very beging I had a leak in the band and had to have the whole surgery done over again. But through it all I give him the Glory. This is his gift to me and to you. We all need to remember that.

Welcome to all you new and soon to be bandsters. This is a wonderful journey. Remember to take pictures monthly so you can see for yourself how your doing.

A Christian woman told me when I found out that I was going to have the surgery, to be sure to ask the Lord to let me see the real me when I look in the mirror. We all know how Satan has such a strong hold on us and our bodies. There have been days when I ask him and it's like I see 2 differen't bodies. So keep that in mind as you go on your journey. He is even with you in the mirror and if we ask he will show us what he sees.

God Bless and Merry Christmas.

sunsett - that is sooooo true!!! Some times I can look in the mirror and feel pretty good about how I look. An hour later I can go by that mirror in the same outfit and think how fat I look. I will remember your post and ask God to show me what I look like :)

After I leave work in about 30 minutes I probably won't be back on here until Wednesday when I come back to work. We have lots of family stuff planned and relatives in town.

Soooooo ....

Merry Christmas to all!!!!!

(a few days early)

Hello fellow Christians:

I am hopefully being banded sometime after the first of the year. The docs I'm using are supposed to be great, but I have no info on the actual surgery and recovery period. Can you tell me what to expect? How long is the recovery period? You have to wait to get a fill? how will I know if my band slips? what foods will I be able to eat, etc.

In Christ,

Susan:help:

Oh, boy! Lots of questions! That's what we're here for.

Surgery will last about an hour, then recovery room, then most seem to spend the night in the hospital, but I went home late in the afternoon.

Recovery time...first day or two you will be sore, but many are going back to work in a week. I took it easy for probably two weeks, but it was really a pretty easy time for me. Some say they have to sleep in a recliner for the first several days because of soreness at the port site, but I had no problem. I was just very careful in lying down.

You will be on liquids for at least a week, then progress to mushy for about another week, then soft for a week and then regular food. Find a Protein drink that you like. I use EAS from costco. I also bought a Magic Bullet blender which came in very handy during those first few weeks (and you'll have to go through that routine every time you have a fill, but probably only a day or two at each stage). I used the Magic Bullet to mix my Protein drinks, to make "mush" out of things like Soups, Beans, etc. And we still use it for a lot of things... DH likes to use it to grind our coffee Beans, for instance.

I'm sure your doctor will have you meet with a dietician once before surgery and you'll be briefed on exactly what regime your doctor wants you to follow. You'll be having servings of about 1/2 cup 5-6 times a day.

Your first fill will probably be 4-6 weeks after surgery. You need that long for healing and for the swelling to go down.

OH, I forgot to mention the gas. I didn't really have a problem with it. I was all stocked up on Gas-X and only used it once or twice. The shoulder pain was there, but not excruciating. I think it took about a month to completely go away, but it wasn't very intense.

Hi all!!!

I am new to this thread. I belong to a few others and don't remembe seeing this one when I was signing up on here. I am just elated to have found it, especially now.

I have a long way to go, I started this whole journey at 416 lbs. back in November 14,2006 when I went to my first class. After a long and trying year I finally had my surgery on November 7th, 2007. So I have been banded a little over a month and a half. I am waiting for my first fill since my surgeon is out on Medical leave right now and will be back on January 7th to give me my fill. I am so finally looking forward to it, especially since my appetite has increased so much compared to what it was just 3 weeks ago.

Well enough of me for now, I wish you all a Blessed Christmas and New Year and I will try to check back in before the end of the year.

I hope you all had a very blessed and merry Christmas!!

May God bless each one of us today as we are on this journey to a more healthful life. I pray that as we get healthier that God will be able to use each one of us more for His will.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
