Hello all I had my surgery 3/6/17 and I've lost 70 pounds so far, but I'm having trouble with foods still so the doctor believes that I have a stricture that needs dilated. Has anyone had the endoscope with balloon dilation? I'm a little worried but I'm excited to feel better too

I have had 6 dilations and I'm scheduled for my 7th Wednesday. They don't hurt and definitely open everything up, unfortunately they don't last for me too long. I had a. Stent placed in April but it failed and I needed up in the hospital for four days before it was removed. I am having another one placed in a few weeks hoping this time it will work.

The dilation are the only thing that has gotten me through. I had a twisted sleeve plus two persistent strictures. And at some points can't even swallow Water or Protein Shakes.

Did your dr order an esophagram? I have had three of those as well to see how opened everything is.

I had my sleeve end of October and have only lost 60 pounds. Good work!

I'm lucky that I've lost this much so quick, I haven't been able to exercise much due to gout from thyroid levels. Not sure about the esophagram. I haven't had any issues other than this and having an extra 6in incision :/ hopefully this will help me. Thanks for your story and good luck to you

I had two - one at four weeks out and one at eight weeks out. The balloon dilation is easy peasy and I felt better right away

when does the risk for stricture go away? Is it something more common in the beginning or ten years from now it could still happen?

they almost always occur within the first three months after surgery. They're pretty rare after that (according to my surgeon).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
