Lap band revised to sleeve 6/9/2017 - poop

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. My name is Tim and I was just sleeved Friday (about 48 hours ago). I had a lap band which was removed and revised to the sleeve. It may be taboo but I have a question about pooping. I haven't had a bowel movement since my sleeve surgery. I just got back home last night (spent one night in the hospital) and have only passed gas so far. I have started taking Miralax because I got really backed up once after a surgery and I never want to go through that pain again. I'm a little stressed about getting backed up. What's the normal amount of time after surgery for a person to poop? What do you recommend to take that can prevent getting constipated? Thank you :)

It will take a few days for a bowel movement. Then you may only have one every few days due to your liquid & puréed diets. I put a some Miralax everyday in my coffee. Try Milk of Magnesia before bed if you begin to get too bloated and have not had any success after 3 days. Good luck on your journey!

I had a band to sleeve revision on June 8th! It took a couple of days to poo. And it's weird. Sorry to be disgusting...but let's be real...it's like juicy farts. It happens different for everyone. Especially with what you ate before surgery. Hopefully you are empty. It will build up. But it's more like a black sludge. My doctor assured me it's fine. Happy pooping.

Thanks to both of you for the responses. Amforshort congrats on your revision, we had the same procedure one day apart. I won't get into gory details but I took miralax once every night since the surgery and yesterday it started cleaning me out. It wasn't as unpleasant as stimulant laxatives have been in the past so I would recommend it to others. How are you feeling 5 days in?

Glad to hear you're flowing now! I'm doing pretty good. Slow, but no pain. Just exhausted easily. I thunk im being overly cautious. Scared somwthing will start hurting. But im sooo hungry! This liquid diet isnt going to last long im afraid. I don't want to eat and mess anything up but I feel so hungry! And have since the minute I woke up from surgery. Everyone at the hospital just kept saying "ha! You're funny!" But I'm like, I'm hungry and I'm getting Hangry! But I've been good and only have done liquids and a little bit of Greek yogurt. Overall though, going well how about you?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
