mrsroyale 71 Posted June 11, 2017 I had my first close encounter with dumping syndrome today. For those who have never experienced it, let me warn you... Nothing, no amount of literature, absolutely nothing prepares you for the sheer horror that is dumping syndrome. Worst part is that there's nothing you can do about it, you just have to ride it out on your own... The pain, the tears... Wow... I was not expecting it! BigViffer 3,544 Posted June 11, 2017 Which symptoms did you have? The drooling, foaming, and extreme nausea is what I hated the most. If it was just the running to the restroom repeatedly I could handle it, but ugh... the general feeling of ill... That will teach you to not indulge!

mrsroyale 71 Posted June 11, 2017 My symptoms were pain right between my breasts, going all the way to my back. It felt like I was being stabbed. Lots of pain, lots of burping, lots of saliva building up in my mouth, but the craziest thing was my sinuses got really stuffy for some reason. At least those are the ones I remember. I was finally able to vomit and felt a bit better but now I can feel some of the symptoms coming back. This is brutal! mrsroyale 71 Posted June 11, 2017 But there's something about grits that my body doesn't agree with. This is the second time I had them post op. The first time they sat heavily in my pouch but didn't get to this point, I just thought it was too soon. This time around it developed into a full dumping episode. Weird. I wonder what itnis about grits...
BigViffer 3,544 Posted June 11, 2017 There really is no reason to eat grits anymore anyways. Well, besides that they are tasty and a comfort food. Strange that it was grits that did it to you, I was assuming something sweeter or high in fats. Were these plain or cheese grits? 2 WiseBeauty and brigjoe998 reacted to this
BigViffer 3,544 Posted June 11, 2017 Oh and regarding the symptoms, yeah baby... thats the good stuff. Those are the ones that give you reason to eat right for life. Nothing like a little Pavlovian conditioning to correct our habits!
mrsroyale 71 Posted June 11, 2017 These were just plain grits. Only thing added was 1tsp of butter and a little bit of salt, all of which was approved by my nutritionist for the first two weeks post-op. Who knows... Maybe my body just doesn't agree with them anymore. Lesson learned the hard way. Sent from my SM-G920V using BariatricPal mobile appSorry you had to go through that!! But grits are too heavy of a food to have 2 weeks post op. What you experienced wasn't dumping. It was being sick from being ill advised that it's okay to have grits 2 weeks post op. You were sick from eating too heavy of a food. Dumping is diarrhea with a mission can come with stomach crapping and vomiting. The real fun experiences are when it's coming out of both ends!! Head in bucket ...you get the picture. Don't have grits for like 8 weeks give it sometime. Good luck on your journey!!
