Where are my fellow Oregonians?

Recommended Posts

I know there are people who have surgeons in Portland. I think at OHSU?

There are some other threads if you go to the Oregon part of the board. There's a spot somewhere on the main page that goes state by state.

Hi~

I'm a fellow oregonian and live in Aloha. I was banded by Dr. Jay Jan last month. My first fill is scheduled for December 10th. Everything went pretty routine as far as the surgery went. Dr. Jan did find a hiatal hernia which he repaired at the same time. So far I've been very happy with him and most of his staff. I'm glad to see there are several bandsters out there who are from Oregon.

It's where your stomach is pushing through your esophigas (probably spelled that wrong). They pull it back and repair it with a few stiches like a hernia. :()

I AM! I grew up in Eugene for most of my life and a few years in Portland. I am currently stationed in Montana, only 2 years left and then back to green Oregon. I visit several times a year and miss it so much! I wish I was getting banded there by a Dr. I somewhat know.

I really recommend Dr. Tersigni. He is way cheaper than anyone else in Oregon for anyone that has to self pay. His clinic just became a center of excellence which is amazing for such a small clinic. When they came to evaluate him, they said he has the lowest complication rate in the Pacific northwest. They were very impressed with him, his staff, his office and how well kept his records are.

Who did you surgery? I met with one from PeaceHealth who was very nice. The name escapes me at the moment.

If it was at peace health it was probably Umbach or Yarbrough. I really like Yarbrough and he is the one that did my surgery. This one is also a center of excellence as well.

Whenever I want a fill I can have one and they don't hassle me. The fills there are totally up to the client... unlike other places.

My aunt used Dr. Tersigni in Coosbay and liked him.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
