Hey all

Iam new to this site.. at the moment I am considering lap banding.. however I am part excited and part scared.. not sure if this is "the answer" to my weight loss struggle.. but it gives me hope too..

I am 26yrs old and have had to battle my weight literally all my life! i have a BMI of 39 and the doc says that if i dont get it down i look at some serious health issues down the road.. years of dieting and exercise have got me no where.. hence this surgery..

i am scared about altering my life forever this way.. but i dont know if there is another option!

sigh! so many questions!

is there anyone who could give me some advice? i guess im just scared of the idea of having surgery.. n then with my past failures at losing weight i'm afraid that it might not work now either!

sigh!:help:

Welcome , glad you found the site, is this "THE Answer" no , is it A tool that works , yes . Was it MY answer ? yes .

can it be YOUR answer ? Sure. Although I understand what you meant I dont want people to think this is a miracle , has it been MY miracle so far yes, however it requires work .

its not easy . For example I see a personal trainer 3 days a week, there was a girl there working out before me and my trainer said something about my up coming fill, the other girl said " that sure does seem like an easy way out to me " my response to her was " I dunno how easy is it , I had surgery AND im still here busting my ass working out just like YOU , so is it an easy way out ? " she pretty much shut up . :speechles

Dont look at it as altering your life, look at it as altering your lifestyle to live forever !. it requires some change , but the band pretty much forces you into those changes and then they become habit , no biggie, it really has been pretty easy for me at least.

I LOVE my band i tell anyone and everyone who will listen about my band.

you can do it . research , research and research some more. You wont regret it if you get it .

Love

Mindy

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
