Anyone Banded at Weight Loss Surgical Centers?

Recommended Posts

Just curious -

I was banded on Sept. 14th by Dr. Selime at WLSC in OP. Had a good experience and am looking forward to what the future holds.

Anyone else use WLSC or Dr. Selime?

Also, I saw something on another thread about a group meeting in the area - I live on the Missouri side, but had the banding done in KS. Is there a monthly meeting or something? If so, is it propietary to a specific facility or surgeon or is it open to any?

TIA

Hi. I am set for October 23 with DR. Nigro. I was impressed by his knowledge and his ability to get it across to me and my husband. It really has made me feel quite comfortable about the surgery.

I am in the Springfield area but will get follow up here and not need to travel for fills. The support forums and really nice.

I just posted this on a new thread! It is open to ALL banded and prebanded patients...

I'm planning to attend.. maybe I'll see you there

The Band-Wagon Support Group will meet on Saturday October 13th at 10am

The Band-Wagon is a support group that is open to any lap-band patient. This includes patients banded by other doctors and pre-band patients doing research. If you are unable to attend, please check out our website at www.MalleySurgical.com. We have a forum for open discussions and hope to be able to have all your questions answered.

Beginning in October 2007, “The Band-Wagon” will begin meeting at the New Hope Bariatrics Center. New Hope Bariatrics Center is located on the Northeast corner of I-435 Hwy and the Nall Ave Exit. New Hope has a large private conference room for group meetings to be held in. The complete address is:

PC Girl -

Dr. Nigro did my initial consult, but doesn't do surgeries on people with a BMI over 55% I believe it is. I was happy with how thourough he seemed in the workup and how he explained things.

The surgery was with Selime and he did a great job to...the staff was very friendly per and post op and I wished I lived closer. They have a workout gym that is open to all patients within the office - but it is 50 minutes commute one way to get there.

Tracy - Thanks for the information. It is appreciated. There always seems to be Scout or soccer functions that fall on Saturday's, but I will see if I can make it. It sounds like a good group.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
