Multifocal Lens Implant

Recommended Posts

Now that I have had my RNY surgery, meet (and exceeded) my surgeon's weight loss goal and am starting to get self conscious about my short comings I am thinking about getting multifocal lens implants http://yaldoeyecenter.com/multifocal-lens-implants. I just turned 50 in February and I have bifocal glasses and hearing aids (due to loud noises on the flight line (when I was in the Army) and I am pretty self conscious about the hearing aids and the bifocals. I know I can't do anything about the hearing aids but I think I can do something about needing glasses. I already tried contact lenses but that didn't work too well. Has anyone had this procedure done and if so are you happy with it?

TIA,

Phil

I use multifocal contacts and you are right, they don't work very well. For me, I will suffer so I don't have to wear glasses. I'm going to check out the multifocal lens implants.

I had one eye set for distance and one for close up when I was wearing contacts. When I had my lenses put it, they did them the same way. I can see great at distances and close up although closeup is better. My husband has a multimodal implant that he is not living as much as I do mine, but he also had some astigmatism that need correcting.

I read the procedure. Isn't any way I'll let someone poke with my eyes. Lol. Hope it works out for you if you decide too.

And your not alone, I too, wear hearing aids, or supposed to be. (Those things are just darn expensive), but my loss is from birth. At least they make them better these days than those big bulky ones behind the ears that I had growing up. (My brother flushed his down the toilet the day he got them! Imagine the heart attack my mom had!! Lol)

I think what I am going to do is get the free consultation in December (along with the price) and set up my flex spending account in January and have it done shortly after that. I hate having bifocals (not to mention hearing aids) and I think it will help with my self esteem.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
