Hi everyone,

I am new to this. I began my journey towards a bariatric sleeve in Jan, but stopped going to the nutritionist in March. So, I have started all over. I have already completed my cardiology clearance, got my blood work done, and my 1st nutritionist appointment done down also. Today I did my upper GI scan and it makes me so excited that I am getting closer to my surgery. I have so many questions and watch so many videos on YouTube. I only need to do my pulmonary exam and psych, then 5 more appointments for nutrition which are scheduled 3 weeks apart. I have state insurance and they require 6 consecutive visits. But, my worry is that I complete my appointments and don't lose any weight or get denied. Since March I gained 10 pounds. I am drinking Water, which I don't usually do, keeping a journal of my intake of food, high Protein low carb, stopped grazing... any tips? Anyone go through state medicaid for sx? Any bumps in the road with weight?

Don't worry about not losing weight on the nutrition appointments. They are just looking for you to try dieting and see if it works for you. Almost EVERYBODY doing this has tried dieting but the insurance company wants you to do it anyway. They are mostly looking to make sure you can make an eating adjustment and stick with it.

When I did my 6 visit nutritionist appointments I actually gained 12 pounds by the end of it. I'm days to surgery and this liquid diet you are too be on will make you lose weight. I've lost 27 pounds in two weeks of this. I'm looking forward to losing after the surgery. Just sick with exactly what they tell you to do and I don't see how they can decline the surgery. After all we are taking this step BECAUSE everything else has failed. With this tool for weight loss we have a fighting chance to succeed but it is still hard work. Good luck!

When I started this my bmi was 47. I am down 75 lbs and now under 35. Loosing the weight I can do but maintaining it is where I think this is going to belp. In the meantime I keep getting asked why I would have surgery when I have lost so much.

Good Luck on your surgery! It is right there. So they won't deny me if I don't lose weight? They want me to start eating in a smaller plate, like the mini plates they put cake in. This had me so stressed out! I thought that I would not be able to get this approved until I lost weight... What if I go up? I mean.. obviously this is why I am here.... I just am anxious and I am just sooooo nervous about my weight and these appointments..

I lost 99 pounds (from 397 to 298) during my six-month, insurance-required diet program. Many people asked me the same thing as my surgery date approached. The answer was simple. I was ready to put an end to my morbid obesity and weight problems. A real end. Not a get-to-250-pounds-and-be-satisfied quasi-end. If I had done that, I'd be 400 pounds again in a couple of years.

The key for me was to keep the eye on the prize. For me, that is 180 pounds and a normal BMI. The sleeve has helped me, and I am now only 14 pounds from goal at 8 months post-op.

Wow, that's amazing. And you are almost there! Congrats with only 14 to go! I wish you well on your journey. And I hope that mine goes by successfully just like yours has.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
