Low sugar Tomato sauces...anyone???

Recommended Posts

I'm 8 months post op and haven't been able to enjoy Tomato sauces because in the USA, they put sugar in everything! It's sooo annoying. I even went online to find a recipe, but it calls for tomato paste, which in the store has added sugar!!

Does anyone know of a true low/no sugar tomato sauce? Store bought or recipe? I don't mind the small amount of natural sugar in the tomato itself. It's the added sugar/corn syrup/fructose crap that add I want to avoid.

I found a recipe for lasagna using portobello instead of noodles and all I need is a no-sugar added tomato sauce. Why does the US have to add sugar to everything?

number one hit on google.

leave out what you want.

personally, I would cut the tomatoes in half and roast them for about 45 at 450. Then follow recipe. Purée. I would not waste time peeling a Tomato. Ha.

Trader Joes Traditional Marinara only has 2g sugar per 1/2 cup serving. I use it in my baked Ricotta recipe.

I find no sugar added Tomato products in the regular grocery store all the time. Just read the labels.

I was buying this to make low carb pizza

http://mycadia.com/product.php?p=Food&c=Staples&s=25276#!/197442

Then I just started getting regular no sugar added tomato sauce at the grocery store and adding seasoning.

If you read labels it isn't an issue.

Hunts has a ton that don't have added sugar. Just look.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
