So Just had surgery 6/2/17 and nothing is sitting well with my stomach everything causes gas and pain.... I just want to be able to get to the mashed potatoes phase... feel like I'm hungry but the SF Jello makes my stomach absolutely turn! And I can only consume about half a popsicle before my pain develops. When I have broth I end up with a gross aftertaste and burping it up constantly. Anyone have any suggestions or experiences with this?

Hi i know the feeling. I had my surgery 8 mo ths ago and it was hell the first 2 weeks. About the food, the only thing that saved and believe or not still saving me till today is the Protein Shakes. I've been seeing people eating all kind of sttuf on the first 2 weeks and to me is totally wrong. Everyone does what they want, but you cant put heavy, gassy, and fatty food in a small stomach! Try the shakes. This phase shall pass and you will feel much better. Good luck

Also to me the burping it is great because this way i am able to get the gas out of me. My doctor told me that the senasation of hungry is because of the acid in the stomach. Are you taking any antiacid? You should use some Nexium!

Some people are sensitive to cold post-op, the first few days I had issues with cold items.

Try a diffrent broth.

You haven't mentioned any Protein, which is worrisome.

I wouldn't bother with mashed potatoes. They have zero nutritional value.

I recall on POD 4 and 5 I was incredibly gassy. Lots of burping and throat/stomach gurgling whenever I ate. I think the GI system wakes up a few days after surgery and unfortunately, it gets uncomfortable to eat. Eating small bites and very slowly did help, along with walking to get the gas out. If you are having trouble tolerating your Clear Liquids call your Dr office and let them know.

I think making homemade broth is the way to go, it really saved me and broke up the monotony of the shakes.

I think you need to take Zantac or Omeprazole and Gax X strips. Acid reflux disguises itself in odd ways post-op.

Thanks so much everyone I managed to start the Protein Shakes although my doctor said it's after the clear liquids phase. They told me not to take gasX because they wanted me to get rid of the gas on my own as opposed to it being pushed in one direction.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
