3 weeks post-op here and I am having a hard time not having something to drink after or when I eat. How bad is it to drink with meals? Sometimes food tastes salty or the seasoning sticks with me and I need Water to wash the taste away. Why is it bad to drink with meals?

When you drink right after you eat, you flush the food through your small stomach and nutrients don't have time to absorb into the body. It's almost like wasted food, but the calories still count. You'll be hungry faster and want to eat again.

Like anything else, you have to work at it to make it a routine.

Ya know, I just thought it was because it would hurt. I had no idea why we weren't supposed to. I have to move my Water because I really struggle with this. Thanks!

A sip or 2 isn't going to hurt, especially if you feel like something is stuck and you weigh all of your portions.

If you are straight up drinking what @blizair09 said it totally correct.

In general, it is a terrible habit to start, because long term you will be able to eat more and you can use drinking while eating to binge eat.

I know it seems impossible but it is something you become accustomed to. It was the one aspect I didn't think I'd be able to adhere to, but I can no problem.

You just have to be willing to commit to it, then it becomes quite easy. But if you aren't willing it won't work.

I was a huge Water slugger preop. With meals and without. It took some adjustment, but I think if you're well-hydrated you'll get used to it. Just takes practice.

I'll be 3 weeks tomorrow and chugging Water and not drinking while eating have been so hard to adjust to. I love chugging water and always got a gallon so dropping down to about 40oz is extremely hard for me to accept. I'm working extremely hard to get it up to 64 but it's hard with having to stop before meals and after and also not being able to chug even though my tummy handles fluids well. It makes sense though why we can't.

I was the same. The good news is as you get further out you'll be able to "chug" a little bit. I am 4 months out and I can drink 4oz of water nonstop when my stomach is completely empty. I can get 8oz in total in about 10 mins. I wish I could drink a full gallon a day again. Oh well. It's worth it. :)

On occasion I do take a sip while I am eating but not more than that. There are times you need to for one reason or another.

I learned long ago to rather drink before eating. It avoids making an aquarium in your stomach because drinking slides through if no food is there yet.

Now after the sleeve, I can't drink right after eating, feels very not right to me.

My question is...we are supposed to eat about every two hours; however, we cannot drink 1/2 hour before we eat, cannot drink while we eat (takes me about 25-30 minutes to eat), then we cannot drink for 1/2 hour after we eat. So, basically, I have a 1/2 hour to drink as much as I can every two hours? Crazy!!!

Each plan is different. My surgeon confirmed with me yesterday that he does NOT want me eating more than 3x a day - Breakfast lunch and dinner. I am meant to have 50g Protein using Protein Powder or clear Premier Protein to supplement the rest. He said that as long as I eat the right things, the right way, and stop when full, I will build good habits (snacking all day is not a good habit according to him) and lose weight.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
