What should I order ahead of time? What should I bring to the hospital?

Just bring a change of clothes and a copy of your surgical clearance, license and insurance card because you never know. And as far as what to order, it depends on the diet your doctor puts you on. I'm on a mushy food diet straight out of the hospital but many people are on liquids only. (I did 2 weeks liquid before surgery). If you have to do liquids before I highly recommend herbox broth packets. They come in sodium free and really break up the sweetness from the shakes and they're only 10 calories!

Good luck!

I brought so much to the hospital I never needed. I recommend a good chapstick or Vaseline - my lips were so cracked and dry they hurt. I didn't even bring a change of clothes just clean undies. Slippers to walk in. A sweater or bed jacket if you get cold. I brought my kindle and phone and never opened the kindle. Either I was sleeping or trying to sleep. Earplugs - hospitals are noisy. As far as what to have at home, I would stock up on Protein Shakes, yogurt, crystal light, bottled Water (if desired) and broth. Propel water saved me - it has electrolytes and has a flavor to it -I like the lemon flavor - and after a couple days of feeling nauseated and weak, it really helped. I asked my doctor for a prescription for Zofran for nausea and so glad I had it - took it for the first 7 days. A friend recommended getting a stool softener on hand and I needed it my second week - taking it daily now.

Good luck on your surgery!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
