I asked my nut about the Patches and others in the office overheard me inquire Several of them in singing style said "noooo". Apparently there are a couple of patients really struggling with Vitamin deficiencies because they were using the patch.

I've been using them religiously for the last 18 mos and have had no issues. I still have to take extra Calcium and that is the only deficiency noted so far. I love them!

I've been using PatchMD multi and Biotin since surgery. My labs were all in normal range at 3 months except Vitamin A was a little low. I like the patch, but think you only really need it for a couple of months. I have no problem taking pills now. I'm still using the Patches. I got a year supply. I eat a wide range of healthy food so it could be my Vitamins are good from food. That is my goal. I just take the multi for insurance.

I do feel my office is very conservative.

@JKC2016 do you feel the Biotin kept your hair lose to a minimum? Was it also a patch

I just received them yesterday, I got sick and tired and nauseous taking the giant bariatric chewables. We shall see what my labs look like in a couple of months. I read most of the reviews on the BP store, nothing but good stuff--so I'm taking my chance. And if I'm lacking after 3 months, well, then I'll find a caplet of some sort.

At the practice i go to one nurse said yes the other said after you reach goal. I had already purchased the Patches before i heard the no. I decided to use the patches and take the chewables a few times a week. I sometimes had issues with taking Vitamins before the surgery. It seems in this world of sleeve surgery one size does not fit all.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
