Hi!

I am scheduled to undergo outpatient gastric sleeve on 7/20/17. I have been a yo-yoer for as long as I can remember. I'm done. I'm ready to be healthy! I am a little worried about going home same day. Does anyone have any experience with this?

They said they would do the leak test before I go home. They did say they would monitor me and if they didn't feel I was ready they would keep me. Still a little scary.

I stayed over night and was a little iffy going then but was happy once I got home in my own bed. Def wouldn't have been comfortable going home same day

Good. Yeah, it's nice to be home. Make sure you get your fluids in. I'm still not sleeping right which is why I'm on here at 4 am but first nightI got a full 5 hrs before the shoulder pain woke me up to go sit up on the couch so I'm not complaining to much. Can't wait for this drain to come out, when I went to the bathroom this morning without my abdominal binder it felt likeI tore a stitch from my drain. The dressing got all wet but I must've pulled on the stitch. The hardest part I had initially was getting in enough fluids and you really have to push yourself. If you can't then make sure you keep your surgeon updated so you don't get dehydrated. Good luck!

I went home the next day. Hey had to do a barium swallow the next morning to make sure there were no issues and that I could tolerate swallowing. I'd ask your doctor about staying over. They may do the swallow test the same day though. Every dr is different.

My surgery was yesterday and to be honest I'm ready to go home. I still have pain and the nausea but I can't believe how good I feel.

I am excited and committed to my new life and better health.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
