It depends on what the food is. Yogurt or cottage cheese I can eat 4oz, but dense Protein like chicken or ground turkey only 2-3oz. I weigh my food so 1 cup doesn't mean much to me. How much does that 1 cup of food weigh?

I am only 3 weeks post op though so keep that in mind.

At 8 months post-op, this is what I eat each day:

Meal #1: 1 scrambled egg with 2 oz chicken breast

Meal #2: 4 oz cottage cheese with 1 T sugar-free strawberry preserves

Meal #3: 3 oz chicken breast, 1 string cheese, and 10 ParmCrisps

Meal #4: 3 oz salmon with 1 oz green Beans, and 5 ParmCrisps

Meal #5: 2 oz hamburger steak (93% lean) with 1 oz green beans, and 5 ParmCrisps

Meal #6: 3 oz chicken breast with 1 oz green beans, and 5 ParmCrisps

Meal #7: 3 oz chicken breast, 1 string cheese, and 10 ParmCrisps

Meal #8: 4 oz cottage cheese with 1 T sugar-free strawberry preserves

I never get "full." I haven't let myself get there ever since the surgery, really. I have always focused on a set amount of food and gradually increased it over time. I could easily eat more at every meal; I just don't. (As an example, I could probably eat double the cottage cheese I eat, but I just won't do it.)

I'm up to 1500 calories now and I'll probably stay there for half the summer and then move to 1600. I'm gradually trying to inch my calories up as I am only 15 pounds away from maintenance. But I do that by adding an extra meal, not adding volume to existing meals.

Good luck!

I'm also 2 months out and I can typically only eat 1/4 to 1/2 cup or 3 to 4 ounces.

I can eat more of Beans, cooked vegetables or mushy vegetables than meat Proteins.

I am going to keep this in mind as I move through the stages and add calories. I think this maybe the best nugget of information I have read and is a smart way to look at how much to eat. I have been attempting to eat until I feel full and have always worried about eating that one bite too much. I do weigh all of my food so I have an accurate record of what and how much I am eating.

I'm about 6 weeks out, and I can usually eat 2-3oz of dense-ish Protein (chicken and egg salad coming to mind) in a sitting. Mushier stuff like bananas or yogurt, probably about ~5.5oz. But my stomach also healed MUCH faster than a lot of other people's seemed to, so YMMV.

I am 8 months out, I can eat about 4oz and that's it. Some days I am really really hungry and I get 6 ozs down. I always eat mainly Protein. chicken dishes.

I'm 2.5 years post op, and still struggle to even eat 4 oz in one sitting. But as far as I can tell, that isn't common, lol.

Around 5-7 weeks I went through an I could eat more than I thought I should phase then it was like my stomach woke up and said no. Sliders like Soup yogurt liquids I can eat more but at 8 months out I can do about 3-4 Protein 2-3 veggies. I have that 1 week a month where I feel constantly hungry regardless so I try stay more planned because I crave sweets, that I don't even want once I taste them

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
