KateBruin 344 Posted June 5, 2017 I tried to search ucla and my surgeon Dr Chen at the UCLA COMET center and couldn't find anything. So, anyone have experience with either? I'm scheduled for July 31 and have met all of my requirements except final post op. During the required pre-op class I was told we all spend the night in Gonda, which is their observation or treatment ward. Was curious what that was like. Any experience welcome!! Anxious and excited. 1 more2love1381 reacted to this

Karoooon 0 Posted June 25, 2017 Had Dr Chen for all Pre op. He is kind, gentle and an excellent clinician. At the last minute they switched me to Dr Dustin because Dr Chen wasn't credentialed with Health Net. On the day of surgery, they both came to see me before and after. Everyone from the reception desk to the pew-op staff to nursing care was amazing They even have a specialist on essential oils and self Hypnosis to help you deal with post op stress and any pain you might have I work in healthcare and am very picky I loved the team at UCLA and would highly recommend them The
Karoooon 0 Posted June 25, 2017 I ended up spending 2 nights there. The nurses were amazing, especially the night nurses. Perfect care and very responsive. You want ant to stay in that unit. Ratio is 2 patients per nurse vs 4-6 upstairs
Pinky Gadget 1 Posted June 25, 2017 Great information thanks. I wonder if he's certified yet because I have health net too
KateBruin 344 Posted June 25, 2017 Thanks everyone! I had my final pre-op with him Thursday and assuming my insurance approves me, I'm all set for July 31. Dr Chen is funny and seems like he really knows his stuff. Staying in the observation unit had me less freaked out once my friend told me it's set up like the ER where you have your own glass wall room but it isn't like the other wards. To me the room felt like any hospital room. Not all have glass windows between them. I had a private room with a tv. Bathroom is shared with others but everything else will make you feel right at home
