jdown 11 Posted June 5, 2017 Do you have type one or type two? I'm type one and that's one of my main concerns, but my surgeon told me to consult with my endocrinologist before surgery to help my adjust my insulin so I don't drop low as much. I'd suggest making an appointment with your endocrinologist so they can help you adjust your medicines correctly. I hope you figure it out, going low is seriously the worst!! Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile appI'm type 1 and just over a month out of surgery. I have had far fewer lows than expected. I have an insulin pump and that helps for quick adjustments. I went from using about 100 units of insulin a day to 35. My basal rate has dropped about 50% but I am still on the same insulin to carb ratio. It's been amazing to take less insulin. I was also worried about dumping from needed sugar quickly due to lows, but it's been fine. Good luck! And OP definitely make a plan with the endocrinologist. I met with mine two weeks prior and two weeks post. We also communicate via email when needed.

I had an appointment with my endocrinologist today and we made a game plan for the pre-op diet. He also said I should meet with a diabetic educator during my hospital stay to help me adjust my basals. Did they make you take off yourpump during your hospital stay? My endocrinologist said they might take me off pump and put me on an insulin drip! Weird!! Glad you're doing well post-op!!
